Refreshed Tivoli gets styling updates inside out
New 1.2 turbo-petrol engine part of Mahindra's mStallion family
Key updates include new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Mahindra-owned Korean brand SsangYong has revealed the mid-cycle update for its popular Tivoli SUV overseas. The refreshed model gets sharper styling, with some elements from the larger Korando SUV, giving it a fresh look inside and out. It also has more features like an upgraded 7.0-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch full-digital instrument cluster.
Under the hood, the updated Tivoli now sees the addition of an all-new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. The G1.2T direct-injection motor churns out 126hp and 230Nm of torque. This unit is part of the Mahindra mStallion engine family, which made its debut at Auto Expo 2020, and is built in-house by the carmaker. It features a dual-mass flywheel, a single drive belt for all the ancillaries, a very rigid, short-skirt crankcase and a resonator on the turbocharger. Additionally, the mStallion engine range also employs lightweight bits like a plastic cam cover and intake manifold. With the new 1.2-litre engine, the refreshed Tivoli will do 100kph in 10.6sec, according to SsangYong.
Closer to home, the same 1.2-litre T-GDI engine from the updated Tivoli will be fitted on the XUV300’s Sportz variant that was unveiled earlier this year at Auto Expo 2020. The Ford EcoSport will also receive the same engine as a replacement for its now defunct 1.0-litre EcoBoost powerplant.
