With the fifth-gen Honda City arriving in showrooms last month, Honda is offering substantial discounts and benefits on select variants of the older fourth-gen City. Customers can avail of benefits ranging up to Rs 1.6 lakh on the fourth-gen City which will remain on sale alongside the new mid-size sedan.

  • VX, ZX trims attracting substantial benefits ranging between Rs 90,000 to Rs 1.6 lakh
  • Fourth-gen City line-up expected to be reduced to two variants

What are the benefits available on the fourth-gen Honda City?

As mentioned above, the fourth gen City is available with benefits of up to Rs 1.6 lakh depending on the variant. Currently available in four trim levels – SV, V, VX and ZX – it’s the latter two that are offered with the highest benefits.

The City ZX is being offered with benefits of between Rs 1.30-1.60 lakh, depending on the gearbox. The ZX CVT models are available with a cash discount of up to Rs 1.10 lakh while the manual attracts a lesser Rs 80,000 cash discount.

The mid spec VX trim is available with cash discounts of up to Rs 70,000.Additionally, the City ZX – manual and CVT, and VX CVT variants are available with exchange benefits of up to Rs 50,000.

The lower entry level SV and V trim levels on the other hand only attract benefits of up to Rs 51,000, inclusive of exchange benefits.

Why the high discounts on select variants?

As previously reported by us, Honda is expected to streamline the fourth-gen City’s variant line-up to just the SV and V trim and drop the option of the CVT gearbox. This is being done to prevent too much overlap between the fourth and fifth-gen models with Honda having decided to sell both models simultaneously.

The higher discounts could be a move to push sales of the higher variants and clear stocks with the VX and ZX trims expected to be axed soon.

Are there discounts on other Honda models?

Moving to the remainder of Honda’s line-up, the carmaker is offering substantial discounts on the diesel Civic executive sedan. The Civic diesel is available with a cash discount of up to Rs 2.5 lakh. The petrol Civic attracts a cash discount of up to Rs 1 lakh.

Those considering the Amaze compact sedan can avail of free fourth- and fifth-year extended warranty, and an exchange benefit of up to Rs 15,000

What is to come from Honda India?

Honda has had a relatively busy second quarter in FY2021 with the launch of the new fifth-gen Honda City, WR-V facelift and BS6 Civic diesel. The carmaker is now readying to launch the updated Jazz in the coming weeks. Bookings for the updated Jazz are currently open.
