Alpina’s version of the X7 and 7 Series will arrive after BMW rolls out updated versions of the models in line with the carmaker's ‘Neue Klasse’ design language and technology, reports Autocar UK. Recently, images of the 7 Series facelift leaked online, hinting at what its design could look like. Because the BMW 7 Series sedan offers both ICE and EV power, and on being asked whether Alpina would offer EV’s as well, Joachim Post, BMW Group R&D chief, said, “We are technology-open”. Additional details about the Alpina models are still under wraps.

“Alpina will talk not about sport but speed, comfort and luxury,” said Post, while mentioning that the philosophy behind the design and configuration of these models will be the same as before.

Despite the development of the models taking place in-house, the Alpina brand will not coincide with BMW’s M division, but rather work as an “exclusive standalone brand” with its own distinct attributes. Post said that Alpina is completely different from a level that other people like from M, which is the performance.

Oliver Heilmer, BMW M division design head, said that this distinction between the Alpina and M division will also reflect in the design of the models. “We wondered in the beginning if there was anything that might overlap, and were looking into the energy based on the past and then looking into the M projects and what they're standing for – and they are so different in their work.

Alpina, as you know it now, is more like having something mature, whereas M is always purpose-driven in terms of the best performance,” said Heilmer. Previously, BMW mentioned that with a focus on high-quality materials and craftsmanship, Alpina would offer a ‘remarkable portfolio’ of bespoke options.
