Hyundai has showcased the ASEAN-spec Elantra facelift for the first time in Malaysia. Compared to its left-hand-drive counterpart that was revealed in August last year, cosmetic differences are minor with changes to the exterior mainly coming down to difference in alloy wheel design and a few bits of chrome. The same is true inside the cabin as well, with the styling from the left-hand-drive model mirrored by the ASEAN-spec car.
A noticeable difference is the inclusion of a manual AC in place of an automatic climate control system, though that may change depending on the market.
In terms of equipment, the ASEAN-spec car packs in automatic projector headlamps, 17-inch alloys, leather upholstery, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a reverse camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
On the safety front, the facelifted car is offered with six airbags, ABS with EBD and vehicle stability control, to name a few features.
Under the hood, the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor is carried forward unchanged, and is the sole engine offered in the Malaysian market.
For India, expect Hyundai to carry forward the current 2.0-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines. Expect the updated Elantra for India to get tech such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-zone climate control, ventilated seats, six airbags, ABS, etc.
When it launches, the Elantra facelift will rival the likes of the new Honda Civic, the Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
