The MG Hector Plus, which is now available to purchase at MG Motor India’s dealerships and via the carmaker’s website, is on sale in a total of eight versions. Priced from Rs 13.49-18.54 lakh, there are four engine-gearbox combinations to choose from and four trim lines on offer. If you’re in the market for MG’s 3-row, 6-seat SUV and don’t know which variant to pick, here’s our buyer’s guide.

  • MG Hector Plus on sale in eight versions
  • The Hector Plus diesel-manual is our pick of the powertrain options
  • Opt for the well-specced Super trim if you have a tighter budget
  • Price no bar, the top-spec Hector Plus Sharp is the most appealing

Which Hector Plus engine-gearbox combination to pick?

The Hector Plus shares the four powertrain options available with the 5-seat Hector. The 143hp/250Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine can be had with 6-speed manual and 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox options. The same 1.5 turbo-petrol unit can also be had with mild-hybrid system, albeit in manual form only. There’s also the 170hp/350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine on offer that comes with a 6-speed manual; a diesel-auto option is not on offer with the Hector Plus.

Our Hector Plus review found that in petrol-hybrid form, the SUV is refined and has adequate go, though those who drive with a full load often should opt for the torquier diesel engine. The Hector Plus diesel will also be more frugal than the relatively inefficient petrol-manual, petrol-DCT and petrol-hybrid versions.

Which Hector Plus variants are on offer?

Like the MG Hector, the Hector Plus is offered in four trim lines, though there is a bit more kit on offer with the 6-seater.

MG Hector Plus Style (Rs 13.49-14.44 lakh)

The entry-level Style variant is only available in petrol-manual and diesel-manual guise. It’s well-kitted in terms of safety kit with essentials like dual front airbags, ESP, traction control, hill-start assist, four disc brakes and a rear wiper. Creature comforts and tech on offer with this trim include LED headlights and DRLs, second and third row AC vents, driver’s seat height adjust, a Bluetooth-enabled audio system, cooled glovebox, power-adjustable wing mirrors and a tilt-adjustable steering.

MG Hector Plus Super (Rs 15.65 lakh)

The next variant in the Hector Plus line-up, the Super, is only available with the diesel engine and costs Rs 1.21 lakh more than the ‘base’ Style trim. For the premium, you get features like a rear camera, front parking sensors, alloy wheels, cruise control, a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and steering-mounted controls.

MG Hector Plus Smart (Rs 16.65-17.15 lakh)

For about Rs 1.5 lakh more, you can get features such as side airbags, LED fog lamps, leatherette upholstery, a 6-way powered driver’s seat, keyless go, power-folding wing mirrors, MG’s i-Smart connected car tech and telescopic steering adjust in the Hector Plus Smart trim. You’ll also be able to choose between the petrol-DCT and diesel-manual powertrain options; if you opt for the Hector Plus DCT, an electronic parking brake will also be on offer.

MG Hector Plus Sharp (Rs 17.29-18.54 lakh)

The range-topping Hector Plus Sharp variant is available in petrol-DCT, petrol-hybrid and diesel-manual configurations and is priced about Rs 1.39 lakh higher than the Smart trim. The extra cash buys you curtain airbags, a 360-degree camera, heated wing mirrors, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster display, tyre pressure monitor, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, hands-free opening boot, automatic climate control, powered front passenger seat and auto headlamps and wipers. While the hybrid Hector Plus does not get electric adjust for the front passenger seat, it adds idle start-stop and an e-boost function – our review found that the mild-hybrid system works quite unobtrusively.

Which Hector Plus variant is our pick?

If you’re on tight budget, the Hector Plus Super – in diesel-manual form – is the most value for money. For the Rs 15.65 lakh you pay for it, you get more than essential safety kit and a decent amount of tech and features too.

The MG Hector Plus Sharp diesel comes across as the most appealing – if price is no object – thanks to segment-leading kit like heated wing mirrors, a 360-degree camera, a total of six airbags, connected car tech and a large panoramic sunroof.
