Ducati Desmo450 MX

The Ducati Desmo450 MX is Ducati's first production motocross motorcycle. It uses a lightweight aluminium frame and compact bodywork designed for racing. The slim fuel tank and narrow side panels make it easier for riders to move around the motorcycle during corners and jumps. The plastics, controls and finish reflect Ducati's premium build quality. Every part is designed for off-road competition, so it does not include road equipment such as mirrors, lights or a pillion seat.

The Ducati Desmo450 MX is built for motocross tracks, not everyday riding. The 970mm seat height suits experienced riders wearing full riding gear. The narrow seat and slim body make it easier to shift body weight while accelerating, braking and landing jumps. The handlebar and footpeg position provide enough room to ride while standing, which is how the motorcycle is intended to be used. The firm seat is comfortable for race sessions but not designed for long-distance riding.

The 449.6cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 63.5hp at 9,400rpm and 53.5Nm at 7,500rpm. It uses Ducati's Desmodromic valve system, making it the first production motocross bike with this technology. The engine delivers strong acceleration out of corners and continues pulling hard on long straights. The 5-speed gearbox shifts precisely during aggressive riding. Ducati recommends oil service every 15 hours and valve inspection between 45 and 60 hours, reflecting its race-focused design. The 7.2-litre fuel tank is intended for motocross races rather than long-distance riding. Fuel efficiency figures are not provided because this is a closed-course competition motorcycle.

The 104.8kg wet weight (without fuel) makes the Ducati Desmo450 MX quick to change direction through corners and technical sections. The 49mm fully adjustable Showa front suspension offers 310mm of travel, while the fully adjustable Showa rear suspension provides 301mm of travel. This setup absorbs jumps, ruts and rough landings without upsetting the motorcycle. Brembo disc brakes deliver strong stopping power, and the lightweight aluminium frame keeps the motorcycle stable under hard acceleration and braking.

The Ducati Desmo450 MX features include Ducati Traction Control, Launch Control, Engine Brake Control and Quick Shift. The traction control system recognises when the rear wheel loses grip and adjusts its intervention without interrupting the rider unnecessarily. Riders can customise electronic settings through the X-Link App. These features are uncommon on production motocross motorcycles and are designed to improve consistency during racing.
