When the Yamaha YZF-R15 was introduced in India, it sold like hot cakes. It was the first lightweight sports motorcycle in the country, and everyone wanted one. In September 2011, Yamaha updated the entrant in the segment, and christened it the Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 – a sportier version of the one it replaced, with an updated ECU and drivetrain.

In an interesting move by the manufacturer, the original Yamaha YZF-R15 has now been brought back to the market, albeit rebranded as Yamaha YZF-R15 S. The YZF-R15 S has a refreshed set of graphics, and the single-piece seat. However, it gets the newer V2.0’s exhaust. Mechanically, the changes made to V2.0 have been carried over to the boomeranged version. This motorcycle is offered in three colour options – white, red and green.

The Yamaha YZF-R15 S has been launched at Rs 1.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and will be sold alongside the V2.0. Also noteworthy is that Yamaha just launched the YZF-R3 a short while back. From what we understand, the manufacturer is filling every gap it can find across all segments, thus providing Indian customers with a wide range of options.
