Piaggio has recognized a strong potential in the Indian two-wheeler market for its premium scooters and is gradually expanding its product portfolio in the domestic market. After the LX125 and the Vespa VX (an LX125 with a front disc brake and new colour options), the recently unveiled Vespa S saw a silent release into the market.

Apart from the contemporary styling with a classic touch that is typical of Vespa scooters and a newly designed saddle finished with a white border for a premium look, the most prominent styling feature on the S is a classic looking rectangular headlamp that serves as a reminder of its ancestors from the 1970s. The instrument cluster also looks like a blast from the past, comprising of an analogue speedometer, fuel-gauge and digital-clock apart.

On the mechanical front, a dealer confirms, the S houses a similar 125cc, four-stroke single-cylinder and air cooled engine as already seen on the LX125 and VX, with a peak power output of nearly 10bhp. Similar to the LX125 and VX scooters already in India, the S also receives a CVT transmission.

A Vespa signature monocoque steel chassis, single-side hydraulic front shock absorber and a rear monoshock will be seen on this new scooter. Braking will be managed by 200mm front disc and a 140mm rear drum brake available as standard.

Like the other Vespas on sale, the S is also available at a premium price point, which is Rs 74,414 (ex-showroom, Pune). Piaggio is all set to declare the official launch of this scooter on March 4, 2014.
