Piaggio has introduced two chic, limited-run scooters into its Vespa line-up in India -- the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani and a 70th anniversary special edition.

Priced at a whopping Rs 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune) the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani has been styled with inputs from Giorgio Armani, the famed Italian fashion house. It commemorates the 40th anniversary of Georgio Armani and the 130th anniversary of the Piaggio Group. The new Vespa 946 will be sold in India as a completely built unit, and is the second most expensive scooter currently on sale in India; the costliest being the Aprilia SRV 850 ABS.

It is powered by a four-stroke, single-cylinder 125cc engine, which produces 11.7hp of power and 10.3Nm of torque paired to an automatic transmission. The scooter gets 12-inch wheels, has 220mm front disc brakes, and comes equipped with a dual-channel ABS and ASR (anti-slip regulator) traction control.

The 70th anniversary edition celebrates 70 years of the Vespa brand, and has been priced at Rs 96,500. It's based on the Vespa VXL (Rs 85,660, ex-Pune) that is already part of Vespa's India line-up, and is powered by a four-stroke, single-cylinder 150cc engine that’s rated at 11.6hp and 11.5Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a Continuously Variable automatic Transmission (CVT).

Both the 946 and the 70th anniversary edition are built on Vespa-typical metal-monocoque bodies and come with a single-hydraulic shock upfront and a twin set-up at the rear. While the 946 gets 220mm rotors for the front disc brakes, the 70th Anniversary edition gets smaller 200mm units.
