Vespa Racing Sixties launched; priced from Rs 1.20 lakh

Piaggio has just launched the Racing Sixties edition scooters. The new limited-edition models are based on the BS6-compliant Vespa SXL 125 and SXL 150 – the 125cc variant is priced at Rs 1.20 lakh, while the 150cc Racing Sixties is priced at Rs 1.32 lakh.

Back in February, Vespa had unveiled the Racing Sixties at Auto Expo 2020. While the scooters share their internals with the SXL 125 and 150, the Racing Sixties versions get cosmetic changes that, as the name suggests, are inspired from racing liveries from the 1960s. 

The base colour on the Racing Sixties is white. There’s contrasting red-and-gold graphics towards the front and the sides, along with matching gold-coloured wheels. The white-coloured piping on the seat matches the scooter’s base colour. Components like the headlight surround, mirrors and exhaust shield are finished in matte black.

Powering the Racing Sixties are the BS6-compliant engines seen on the Vespas. The 125cc version makes 9.93hp at 7,500rpm and 9.6Nm at 5,500rpm. The 150cc Racing Sixties, meanwhile, puts out 10.4hp at 7,600rpm and 10.6Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. Braking is handled by a 200mm disc up front and a 140mm drum at the rear. While the 150 gets ABS, the 125 makes do with CBS.

The standard BS6-compliant SXL 125 and 150 have price tags of Rs 1.14 lakh and Rs 1.27 lakh, which means the Racing Sixties colour scheme comes at a premium of Rs 5,000-6,000. These scooters are also among the most expensive scooters on sale in India.
