This year, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the parent company to Kawasaki Motorcycles celebrates its 120th anniversary. Although the company’s two-wheeler business is less than half as old, India Kawasaki Motor (IKM) has decided to spread some of the cheer from its anniversary celebrations to the country. The company has issued a statement that in a bid to celebrate twelve decades of its existence, one of its most popular models in India, the Ninja 650 has just seen a significant price drop of Rs 40,000.

Originally priced at Rs 5,37,420 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Ninja 650 is now available at Rs 4,97,420. Regardless of the actual plan behind the price reduction, it should now certainly make a stronger case to any riders looking to upgrade their ‘big bike’. The first generation of this bike was launched in India back in 2011, when it became one of the first mid-capacity CKD motorcycles to come into the country. A little over a year later, the second generation of the bike hit Indian shores.

As it stands today, the Ninja 650 is powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor that makes 72.1hp of peak power and 64Nm of peak torque. This full-faired machine that features comfortable ergonomics, a large seat and weighs 211kg isn’t truly a sport bike, and is aimed squarely at the sport touring market. While it gets large dual 300mm petal disc brakes at the front and a single 220mm petal disc at the back, ABS is not offered, even as an option.
