Indian Motorcycle showroom is now open for business on Infantry Road, Bengaluru. The new dealership will also offer after-sales service for the American-built motorcycles. At the launch, Indian Motorcycle also unveiled two new motorcycles in India — the Dark Horse and the Roadmaster.
The two new motorcycles will join the existing ones on sale in India, taking the count to a strong six motorcycle line-up from its four families. The four families are, the ‘Scout’, the ‘Cruiser’ —including the Dark Horse and the Classic, the ‘Bagger’ — including the Vintage and the Chieftain, and the ‘Touring’ family, now including the top-of-the-line Roadmaster.
Pankaj Dubey, M.D., Polaris India said, “As far as Indian is concerned, we will be present in 12 different locations in India by end of 2016. Four new dealerships will be up and running before August 15, 2015. The first of which will be a Mumbai dealership, followed by Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. We are confident of the quality of our products on offer and we will launch every new motorcycle model here as they are launched globally. We will organise rides also for our clients. In terms of sales numbers, we have almost touched our target which was to capture 10 percent of the Indian premium motorcycle segment, which we term as motorcycles over 20 lakh rupees.”
Let’s take a look at each motorcycle.
Indian Scout: Indian launched the Scout globally last year. A motorcycle that gained popularity from the time it was first launched in the 1920s, the Scout today is equipped with the first liquid-cooled engine from the American manufacturer.
The Scout is not an extra-large cruiser in size, but is rather small, somewhat the size of a Harley-Davidson 48. Although a cruiser, the Scout follows the new formula that brands are adopting — to modernise their cruisers, drawing away from the generalised old-school look. For instance, the cast alloy chassis is light, and the front-end cleverly integrates the radiator. The engine here acts as a stressed member, the rear cast alloy sub-frame is also hard andis mounted on the engine. The Scout uses a 1,133cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled and V-twin cylinder engine. It produces 100bhp of power and 10kgm of peak torque is produced at 5,900rpm. The Indian Scout cost Rs 12,21,900 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
