BMW F 900 GS India lineup

BMW has launched the F 900 GS in India at Rs 13.75 lakh, and its more touring-oriented counterpart, the F 900 GS Adventure, at Rs 14.75 lakh.

  1. New 895cc engine makes 105hp and 93Nm
  2. Both bikes come to India as CBUs

Both new bikes are built around a bored-out version of the 853cc parallel-twin motor that powered the outgoing F 850 GS. Displacement is now up to 895cc, and as a result, output has also increased to 105hp and 93Nm. Underpinning both machines is what BMW calls a bridge-type frame, though the rear sub-frame is unique to each model.

Other areas of difference between the GS and GSA include a larger seat and fuel tank on the Adventure (23 litres vs 14.5 litres), as well different styling that’s closer to the outgoing BMW models in this segment. The standard GS, meanwhile, goes down a new route of being more minimalist in its styling approach. It looks quite slim and sports a single headlight unit that looks very similar to that on the smaller G 310 GS.

As a result of these differences, the Adventure is 20kg heavier than the standard GS, tipping the scales at 246kg. This is despite both bikes sporting the same 21-inch/17-inch wheel setup and suspension travel. Other common components here include a new 6.5-inch TFT dash that allows you to tweak things like the riding modes, traction control, cruise control and standard-fitment heated grips.

Bookings for both motorcycles are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin in October. Interestingly, the outgoing F 850 GS is still listed on the BMW Motorrad website, but likely only until the remaining stock is cleared.
