Bimota KB399 unveiled as Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR-based premium middleweight

Bimota, Kawasaki’s bespoke arm in which it holds a 49 percent stake, has unveiled the KB399, a bike based on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR but with higher-spec components than the latter and styling inspired by the KB998 Rimini.

1. KB399 shares its 399cc inline-four with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR
2. Standard model gets Showa SFF-BP fork and BFRC lite rear shock
3. ES variant gets Ohlins rear shock and carbon body panels

Kawasaki ZX-4RR based Bimota: What’s new

Unveiled in two variants, with the ES variant featuring carbon panels

The KB399 uses the ZX-4RR’s 399cc inline-four liquid-cooled engine along with identical core specifications, including a 57.0mm x 39.1mm bore and stroke and 12.3:1 compression ratio. While Bimota hasn’t disclosed output figures, this engine produces 80hp at 14,500rpm and 39Nm at 13,000rpm in the ZX-4RR. A titanium Akrapovic exhaust is offered as standard on the Bimota, which is likely to increase the output numbers.

Chassis hardware has been upgraded in line with Bimota’s positioning. The standard KB399 gets a fully adjustable 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD fork and a Showa BFRC-lite rear shock, while the higher-spec ES variant replaces the rear unit with an Ohlins STX46 shock. Braking duties are handled by radially mounted Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers.

The design has been completely reworked and draws from the KB998 Rimini, including the addition of winglets. The ES (Edizione Speciale) variant further distinguishes itself with dry carbon fibre used for the upper, side and lower fairings. Bimota has also incorporated billet aluminium components such as the triple clamps, steering stem cap, and – on the ES – the clip-ons and foot-peg assemblies.

While it shares its engine and core platform with the ZX-4RR, the KB399, particularly in ES form, is positioned as a more exclusive, low-volume alternative with upgraded components and distinct Italian styling.
