A few months ago, Bajaj expanded the 400cc Triumph line-up with the Scrambler 400 XC, a variant on the Scrambler platform that ran on tubeless spoke wheels. At Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the 400 XC became the most expensive of the made-in-India Triumph models, largely down to the price of the wheels, which have now been shared with us.

  1. Each wheel on the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC costs more than Rs 34,000
  2. Spoke wheels can be retrofitted to Scrambler 400 X
  3. Warranty not available on the spokes if wheels bought separately

Triumph Scrambler 400 XC spoked wheels price

Scrambler 400 XC priced Rs 27,000 more than 400 X.

The Scrambler 400 XC is one of a handful of made-in-India bikes to roll on cross-spoke wheels that permit tubeless tyres. These rims are imported from overseas and are quite pricey; Rs 34,876 for the front and Rs 36,875 for the rear, if purchased separately. It's only once you consider this pricing that one realises how competitive Bajaj’s pricing model is to be able to offer the Scrambler 400 XC at just Rs 27,000 more than the 400 X.

After all, these are the sort of rims that one would find on premium large-capacity machines such as Triumph’s own Tiger 900 Rally Pro and Scrambler 1200 X (not the same sizes but the same construction); a set of wheels on those will easily cost the price of a 125cc petrol scooter, if not more. Recently, Royal Enfield revised the price of the Himalayan 450's cross-spoke wheels to Rs 40,000 for a set, which was a big step up from before. In comparison to the 400 X’s alloy wheels, the XC’s spoked rims are 1.1kg heavier.

Existing owners of the Scrambler 400 X can purchase these wheels separately and we have been led to believe that they are a straight swap for the alloy wheels. However, one important point to bear in mind is that if you do so, warranty on the spokes is not available. Warranty is instead only available on the wheel rim for manufacturing defects, if any, but not on bent rims.

Currently, the Scrambler 400 XC joins the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, Goan Classic 350 and KTM 390 Adventure in the list of Indian-made bikes that offer the convenience of tubeless tyres with spoked wheels.
