Headlights with Renault’s new lighting signature, a C-shaped chrome trim.

The bold, structured grill comes with personalisation options.

Interior design, features and space are totally segment defying.

A large 300-litre boot makes this a brilliant road trip companion.

This is a small car that makes a big statement. It has to. When you’re going up against someone who has ruled a segment ever since it was created in India, bringing out something just as good isn’t good enough. It has to be way better. It has to break the mould. It has to raise the bar. It has to shake up the segment in a manner that has not been done before. Others before it have tried. None have come close. The Renault Kwid, though, has everything that will get customers excited and the competition, worried. It is a car that symbolises dynamic performance, strength and a taste for adventure. It is a car that has been designed for more. A car that lets you make the most of every day.

Designed to turn heads

This is one smart-looking Kwid. Its butch SUV-inspired design with a bluff front end, sculpted sides and squared bulging wheel arches, is clear for everyone to see. The short front and rear overhangs and high ground clearance add to its robust image. The bold, structured grille highlighting the Renault diamond logo, the headlights with their C-shaped chrome trim and stylish fog lamps make the Kwid even more striking. The rectangular, black wheel arches and the black trim rear bumper accentuate the SUV look. The steeply raked windscreen, the high waistline and the integrated roof spoiler add dynamism and sportiness.

Power that’s sensible and exciting

The Renault Kwid is powered by a 0.8-litre, all-aluminium, three-cylinder engine that produces 54PS and 72Nm of torque. What makes these numbers more interesting is that it achieves an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 25.17kpl, making it the most fuel-efficient petrol car in India. Yes. You read that right. It achieves this thanks to SCe — Smart Control efficiency engine that features advanced technology for accurate fuel to air ratio monitoring. A knock sensor also automatically adjusts spark advance to fuel quality, helping deliver optimised performance.

Whatever the terrain, the Hyundai Creta powered its way across without missing a beat.

The Creta’s cabin is a cocoon of comfort while it’s freezing outside.

A smooth stretch of black asphalt now runs through Morey plains.

It’s -4deg Celsius when we wake up at Sarchu.

The mountain is blanketed in snow as we cross Baralacha La.

We leave the mountains behind us, and reach the plains.

It’s a demanding 1,000km to Delhi, and the Creta performs flawlessly.

Nestled amidst the greenery are some outstanding roads; and it gets even more special in the monsoon.

There are plenty of great picnic spots around Mulshi lake, but if you’re here for the drive, the road is your picnic.

The results of fixing two turbos to Porsche’s meatiest V6 are bordering on the ludicrous. Tread with caution.
