In terms of engine options, the Carens Clavis is nearly identical to the Carens, offering a 115hp 1.5-litre petrol with a 6-speed manual, a 116hp 1.5-litre turbo-diesel with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch auto or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The Carens Clavis’s cabin comes in one of three colour schemes, depending on the trim level. The base HTE and HTE(O) trims get a black-and-beige interior with black-and-blue semi-leatherette seats, while the HTK, HTK+ and HTK+(O) trims feature black seats. In the higher-spec HTX, HTX(O) and HTX+ trims, the Carens Clavis comes with a blue-and-beige finish for the interior and leatherette seats.

Which Kia Carens Clavis variant should you consider buying?
HTX trim offers the best value.
Judging by the features on offer, the Carens Clavis HTX trim offers almost every creature comfort expected of a premium MPV. It’s also available with a diesel engine, which would net you a hefty 19.54kpl (claimed) mileage and great punch in both city and highway conditions, albeit for a higher price tag. If you’d like a more spirited driving experience and a lower upfront cost, the HTX turbo-petrol is the better option. However, Level 2 ADAS is strictly exclusive to the top-spec Carens Clavis HTX+, so buyers who want every possible safety feature should go for that.
For buyers on a strict budget, the HTE(EX) is the trim to go for. It features most of the basic safety essentials, comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes a sunroof. Moreover, it is available in all three engine options.
In terms of rivals, the Carens Clavis falls in the price range of the Toyota Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and Rumion, as well as the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Ertiga.
