With its April 2026 facelift, the Volkswagen Taigun gains a longer list of features. But is that enough to take on the midsize SUV segment's bestseller, the Hyundai Creta? We compare the top-spec Taigun GT Plus Sport with the Creta King on paper to find out.

The Hyundai and VW SUVs are closely matched on the exterior features front, offerings LED headlights and tail lights, electrically adjustable ORVMs, roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, and keyless entry. Neither of the two gets front fog lamps or a powered tailgate, which many rivals come equipped with. The main difference here is wheel size, with the Creta King sitting on 18-inch alloys while the Taigun GT Plus Sport makes do with 17-inch units.

The Creta clearly pulls ahead when it comes to interior features. It gets a larger touchscreen, an extra rear wireless charger, an 8-speaker sound system. It stands out with Boss mode and a retractable seatback table. The Taigun does have an edge in one area, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while the Creta requires an adapter.
Beyond that, both SUVs are closely matched, sharing features like a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, rear AC vents, powered and ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery and cruise control.

The Creta has the upper hand on safety equipment, thanks to its Level 2 ADAS suite and a 360-degree camera, both of which the Taigun misses out on. The Volkswagen sticks to a rear-view camera instead. That said, both SUVs are well covered on the basics, with six airbags, disc brakes, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist and ESC. Also, the pre-facelift Taigun and Creta were both tested by Global NCAP, where the VW SUV scored full five stars and the Hyundai offering scored three.

The Creta King is the more versatile package in terms of powertrain choices. While the Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus Sport sticks to the 1.5-litre TSI with a 7-speed DCT, the Creta King offers every engine and gearbox combination available in the SUV's line-up, including naturally-aspirated petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel. Looking at the turbo-petrol Taigun and Creta specifically, the latter's 1.5-litre unit makes 160hp, 10hp more than the VW. However, both produce the same 250Nm of torque.
When it comes to mileage, the Taigun's 18.85kpl figure is slightly better than the Creta 1.5 turbo-petrol DCT. But once the diesel comes into play, the Creta pulls ahead comfortably. Its diesel manual returns 21.8kpl, while the automatic version is rated at 19.1kpl. In addition to diesel, a naturally aspirated petrol engine choice is exclusive to the Creta.

The Hyundai Creta King clearly has the upper hand when it comes to features. It stands out with larger alloy wheels and touchscreen, Boss mode, Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera. Not only does it offer more equipment, but also a wider choice of powertrains, including naturally aspirated petrol and diesel options with both manual and automatic gearboxes. Even its turbo-petrol engine is more powerful than the Taigun's 1.5 TSI. Yes, the Creta King 1.5 turbo-petrol commands a Rs 60,000 premium over the Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus Sport 1.5 TSI, but given the longer list of features and relatively more powertrains, it comes across as the more well-rounded package overall.
