I currently drive a Hyundai i20 Active that returns about 9-10 km/l for me, which I find very low. I’m planning to upgrade to a manual car under ₹12 lakh and am considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, or the new Hyundai Venue. Please suggest which would be best.
We would recommend the new Hyundai Venue as it is a very good all-rounder, and you will get a well-equipped variant too. Pick from the naturally aspirated petrol models as the turbo petrol engine is very sensitive to driving style, and its real-world efficiency is often well lower than the claimed figure. The Mahindra 3XO is also a good all-rounder; however, it's geared more towards a peppy drive experience, and this comes at the expense of fuel efficiency, and since which is important for you, so it's best avoided.

I currently own a 2020 Kia Seltos petrol manual and want to upgrade to a larger car (over 4.5 m) with good driving dynamics and a comfortable ride. I prefer petrol only (not an EV) due to limited charging access. My budget is ₹35 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.
A logical option for you is the all-new Seltos, which goes on sale in January 2026. The new Kia Seltos is much bigger than the outgoing model, offering more legroom and luggage space than your current Seltos. However, if you want a change from the Seltos, you could also consider the Mahindra XUV 7X0, which is a facelift of the Mahindra XUV700 and is a large, spacious SUV with a choice of strong petrol and diesel engines. The diesel 7X0 would be our pick

I currently own an i20 (2012-2014) Sports petrol variant and want to upgrade because it’s quite old. I use the car very infrequently, mostly weekends or occasional family outings for four, and don’t want to spend much since I already have 2-3 bikes for daily use. My budget is around ₹5 lakh; I prefer an automatic petrol car. Should I buy a used or a new car? Please suggest suitable options.
For a budget of Rs 5 lakh, there aren't many automatic new car options available. You could opt for a Maruti Suzuki S Presso VXi AMT, which would serve your needs. But as you need to carry four family members during your occasional weekend use, we would recommend upgrading to a Maruti Suzuki Celerio 1.0 Petrol VXi AMT. It is a bit more spacious and upmarket. However, yes, given your limited usage and need for passenger room, we would recommend checking out a used car

I am a first-time driver planning to buy my own car. I really like the Skoda brand, so I am considering the Skoda Kushaq Signature Automatic. My city usage will be very minimal, and I need a suggestion on whether I am choosing the right car. I am 43 years old and want to know what is better for a first-time driver: a manual car or an automatic transmission. I am more concerned about safety and reliability, and my budget is ₹12 lakh. What is the best car, as per expert suggestion?
The Skoda Kylaq is one of the better compact SUVs in the market, so if you are inclined towards it is certainly worth buying. Being an SUV, the elevated seating position, which gives you good visibility of the road, is useful for first-time car buyers like yourself. We would advise you to opt for an automatic transmission because it will make your life behind the wheel a lot easier. The Kylaq’s 6-speed automatic is quite smooth and responsive, and paired to the 1.0 litre TSI engine, performance is effortless too. In terms of reliability, the Skoda doesn’t have the best reputation for service, but we don’t think that should be a deal breaker. With its 5-star crash rating, the Kylaq is very safe and known for its tough build.
