I want to buy a new car with a budget of around Rs. 15 lakh. I am open to either diesel or EV options. My annual running is around 12,000 km, including 4-5 highway trips a year. I have a family of four adults. Which car and variant should I consider?
Given your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is the most sensible recommendation. The diesel engine is efficient and well suited to your usage pattern, and the 3XO is one of the most spacious compact SUVs, with a wide rear bench that comfortably accommodates four adults. It also offers a good balance of ride comfort and highway stability, making it well suited to your occasional long-distance trips.
The diesel engine will help keep running costs in check over time, and the 3XO is a well-rounded package with strong safety credentials and a good feature set for the price. The only real drawback is that the boot is on the smaller side for the segment, so if you regularly travel with a lot of luggage, you may need to plan accordingly.
If you are open to an EV and have home charging available, the Tata Nexon EV is worth considering as a city-friendly alternative, but given your highway usage and annual running, the diesel 3XO is the more practical and cost-effective choice.
