Go for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid automatic - it will cut your fuel use sharply, often doing 20-plus kpl in city traffic where the Astor struggles. The automatic is smooth and stress-free, and because the hybrid runs on electric power a lot in stop-and-go, you get far better mileage without changing your driving style. Size, space and comfort are close to your Astor, so the switch is easy.

Two things to keep in mind: the hybrid costs more upfront than a regular petrol automatic, and the boot is smaller. Also, when you press hard, the engine sounds a bit loud, but in daily driving, it stays quiet and efficient. Toyota backs the hybrid battery well, which helps long-term peace of mind.

If most of your running is highway, look at the Kia Seltos diesel automatic instead - it returns strong highway mileage and feels relaxed at speed.

I am currently looking to upgrade my vehicle. My existing Ford Freestyle petrol has covered 1,46,000 km over seven years. My typical driving pattern consists of 60% highway and 40% city driving, primarily in a mining region where road conditions are challenging. I recently bought a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid and intend to use Jio-BP petrol because of its claimed advantages. However, a Toyota service adviser has advised me against it, saying that Jio-BP petrol has been causing engine damage. Is there any technical or expert opinion on this?

There is no technical evidence to suggest that Jio-BP petrol is harmful to your Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid. All major fuel brands in India, including Jio-BP, must meet the same BIS and BS6 fuel quality standards, and Toyota engineers its engines to run reliably on fuel from any compliant pump. The Hyryder’s hybrid system is not unusually sensitive to fuel quality. It is designed for Indian conditions and fuel variability.The only caveat is to avoid pumps with visibly poor maintenance or questionable fuel storage practices, regardless of brand. If you are concerned, stick to busy, well-maintained pumps where fuel turnover is high. Otherwise, there is no reason to avoid Jio BP petrol specifically. The car will run just as reliably on it as on fuel from any other major brand.

I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. Please suggest which one would be the best choice for my requirements.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT. Your priorities are a smooth automatic, good fuel efficiency and a daily 30km commute in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Brezza’s 6-speed torque converter automatic is the best fit for this usage. It is smooth, reliable and well suited to stop-start conditions, and the naturally aspirated petrol engine is efficient and easy to live with. Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs add to the ownership peace of mind.The Sonet and Venue DCTs are good cars, but the DCT gearbox is not ideal for heavy traffic. Go for the Hyundai Venue. With your daily 35km commute in Delhi NCR traffic, comfort and low maintenance are key, and the Venue delivers on both. The 1.2 NA petrol is smooth, refined and easy to drive in stop-start conditions, while Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The HX6T variant also gives you a good balance of features without pushing the budget too far.The Sonet HTK+O is mechanically very similar, but the Venue is a newer model and offers a more spacious cabin. The XUV 3XO is also a good option, but its turbo petrol engine won't be as efficient as the Hyundai’s.Overall, the Venue is the most sensible upgrade from your Grand i10 for daily city use.
