I want to buy my second car. I have been using an i10 since 2012 and now want to buy a 7-seater. Safety is my highest priority. My budget is ₹25 lakh. My usage is mostly city driving of about 300 km per month and around 300 km of highway driving each month. I prefer a manual transmission. Which one should I get, and should I choose petrol or diesel? I am asking for the third time, but have not received any reply yet.

For your limited running, there is no special need to go for a diesel. Even though a diesel car will be more efficient and cheaper to run, it will also be expensive to purchase. If you plan to use the third row often, the best 7-seater option is the Kia Carens Clavis. The third-row seating is comfortable, there is plenty of seating flexibility, and access to the third row is also quite convenient. Get the Clavis turbo-petrol in HTX Plus trim, which is well within your budget.
The best three-row petrol SUV options within your budget are the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO. It's the Safari with the better third row and the one we'd recommend for your use. The Tata Safari petrol-manual in Accomplished X trim suits your needs.

Sir, Is Kia Carens 5 star Bharat NCAP or global NCAP rated? As i told you sfety is my highest priority. Also, sorry that I mentioned only regular running. Annual 4 trips of 1500-1600 km per trip will also be done. Will this change the suggestion or remain same?

If you want safety always go for mahindra or tata, Safari would fulfil all your needs but you will get single digit fuel economy in city.

Consider the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX5 7-seater Petrol Manual. Roughly ₹23-24 lakh on-road, it delivers 5-star Global NCAP safety for your family's top priority within budget. The one thing you will give up is the Toyota Innova Crysta's bulletproof reliability as XUV 7XO service can be inconsistent in smaller cities.

Go for the Kia Carens Clavis Diesel. Its diesel engine is smooth, refined and very efficient, which you will certainly appreciate on account of your high usage. While the automatic version will be convenient, you could even consider the manual instead - the latter being even more fuel efficient, and its clutch and gearbox feel light and easy. What's more, this car is a spacious six or seven seater, with adequate space even in the third row. Moreover, it is well equipped too, and feels quite premium on the inside. If you want more power and higher ground clearance for rough roads, you could look at the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel, but efficiency will not be as good as the Clavis. Also, if you're open to electric cars, the Clavis EV and Mahindra XEV 9S will be great options for you, and if you can arrange for home charging, both these will be very economical to run.

I am planning to buy a new 7-seater car with a budget of around ₹25 lakh. I am confused between the Toyota Innova Hycross GX(O), Toyota Innova Crysta, and the Mahindra XUV 7XO.

Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross GX(O) 7-seater at your budget, it gives you the best mix of space, comfort and easy daily use. It drives like a modern car, not a heavy ladder-framed people mover, so the steering is light, the ride is comfortable, and the petrol-automatic powertrain keeps things smooth in traffic. The third row is genuinely usable for adults, the cabin is airy, and Toyota’s service network and resale are strong, which makes ownership simple over many years. One thing to be aware of: the GX(O) is petrol-only, so it will use more fuel than a diesel when fully loaded or on long highway runs. Also, it skips some of the fancy features you see in costlier trims, so if you want all the tech, you will have to stretch or look elsewhere.Pick the Toyota Innova Crysta only if you do a lot of highway driving with seven people and luggage. It's diesel pulls strongly, and the car feels tough on bad roads, but it is manual-only, so the clutch can feel heavy in traffic, and the cabin feels older. Choose the Mahindra XUV 7XO if you want more features and strong performance for the money. But know that the third row and boot with all seats up are smaller than the Hycross.
