Hi, I have owned a Yamaha SZ-R since 2011 and am planning to change it in May. I am looking for a good bike suggestion between the Husqvarna 250 Vitpilen, Honda CB350 RS, Dominar 400, and Guerrilla 450 for office and family commuting as well as occasional highway rides.

Each bike you are looking at offers a very different user experience, so we'll list each bike's pros and cons so you can make an informed decision.

The Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 is a KTM 250 Duke that is wearing a neo-retro suit and as such will be comfortable, engaging yet not overwhelming to ride and return good fuel economy too. The downside is that finding a dealer could prove to be an issue depending on where you're located.

The Honda CB350RS is the slowest bike among the four you've shortlisted, but it is a proven machine offering comfort, good fuel economy and the promise of reliability in the long run.

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is the fastest, most powerful bike here and will feel the most lively to ride thanks to its punchy engine and eager handling. Its sporty - read: stiff - suspension setup may not be to everyone's tastes, however.

Lastly, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is the oldest bike here, and also the heaviest, but it packs in a powerful KTM-sourced engine and for highway touring will feel the most adept. However, its heavy weight will mean more effort inside the city.

We'd recommend you take a thorough test ride of all these bikes before you make up your mind.

You can seriously consider Harley Davidson 440T. I am using HD 440 Since 18 months. I am loving it.

I’m planning to upgrade from an Apache 200 after 9 years. My usage is primarily within Bangalore city, with occasional highway trips. I’m confused between the KTM Duke 250, which seems like an agile city option with good tech, the Scrambler 350X, and the KTM Adventure 350. The Scrambler 350X is my first choice, followed by the KTM Adventure 350. However, I feel I might be wasting the larger engines if I’m mostly riding in heavy city traffic. For my usage, should I stick with the Duke 250, or would it make sense to move to one of the bigger options?

We'd recommend you go with the 350cc Triumph Scrambler 400 X over the other bikes you've shortlisted for two reasons. First, it will offer you a big step up in comfort and performance from your Apache 200. Second, despite using a larger engine, this Triumph bike is a very friendly city bike and won't catch you out with abrupt, overeager power delivery or a heavy clutch. The 350cc KTM 390 Adventure has a very buzzy engine which will make its presence felt at all times and the KTM 250 Duke will feel like a small step up from your Apache 200.

I’m 38 years old and 5'6" tall. I’ve been riding a Honda Shine 125 for about a decade and now want to upgrade to a bigger bike. I really like the Triumph Speed 400, but I’ve heard that its maintenance costs can be high. I’m also considering the Bajaj Dominar 400, Pulsar NS200, and Royal Enfield Classic 350. Please help me choose the right bike based on my requirements. I’m also open to other suggestions. I plan to keep the bike for at least 8 years, so long-term reliability and maintenance costs are important to me.

Since you are going to keep your next purchase for a long time and are coming from a Shine, we'd advise you to consider with the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The Classic is a simple, fuss-free motorcycle which should be easy and inexpensive to maintain. This Royal Enfield bike will also offer you a step up in terms of comfort, features and road presence from your Shine although, expectedly, its fuel efficiency will be lower owing to its larger engine. If you want something sportier, then consider the KTM 250 Duke. The quarter-litre Duke has approachable yet exciting performance and will allow you to grow into it as time passes. This KTM bike has great handling, cool tech like a colour TFT display and bidirectional quickshifter and its zingy engine can also be rather fuel efficient with sensible riding. These are two starkly different machines and depending on your preferences, pick between them. A test ride of both should help you decide which one is right for you.

I’m confused between the Honda CB350 H’ness and the Royal Enfield Hunter 350. I liked the refined engine and comfortable riding position of the CB350, while I liked the Hunter’s looks, lightweight nature, and ease of manoeuvring. My daily travel is around 40 km, mostly in traffic, with speeds rarely crossing 80 kmph. I plan to use the bike primarily for daily commuting. Which one should I go for? Also, would using an inclined handlebar riser on the Hunter 350 improve its riding comfort?

The Honda CB350 would make more sense for your needs because you spend most of your time in city traffic where comfort and refinement are paramount. While this Honda bike is a slightly larger machine than the Royal Enfield Hunter (both weigh the same 181kg), after a brief acclimatization period, you will get used to it. While a set of handlebar risers can improve your seating posture on the Hunter, you will lose some feedback and control from the front end and you will also need to arrange for longer cables and hoses to accommodate this change.
