Prior to my Innova HyCross, I was driving a Honda CR-V for a very long time. I am thinking of buying the Honda ZR-V, but I am unsure about the product and pricing. Any suggestions from Team Autocar?

If you enjoyed owning the Honda CR-V, the Honda ZR-V will feel like a natural successor. This Honda car carries forward the same Honda traits of refinement, comfort and effortless drivability, while adding a modern 2.0-litre strong-hybrid powertrain producing 184hp and 315Nm, paired with an e-CVT.
The only caveat is the price. At an expected Rs 40-50 lakh (ex-showroom), the ZR-V comes to India as a full import (CBU), which will make it considerably more expensive than similarly sized SUVs. That's where we feel the value proposition becomes difficult to justify.
If you're happy with your Innova HyCross, the ZR-V won't necessarily feel like an upgrade in terms of space or practicality. The HyCross offers a roomier cabin and will arguably be the more versatile family car. The ZR-V is aimed more at buyers who want a premium five-seat crossover with excellent refinement and hybrid efficiency rather than maximum practicality.

I strongly support the views expressed by Autocar. Innova Hycross,according to me is a better option going by the price of ZR-V. We have seen Honda fail repeatedly in their new launches and I do not expect ZR-V any different.Also please make a note that after you own a Honda product,you will get zero support from Honda and they do not know how to respect a customer.I bought an Amaze and sold it after 4 months since I had issues with the pick up and despite repeated mails to Honda and their CEO,there was no response.I will not touch a Honda again

@sultangangar If Honda launches the ZR-V at a competitive price, it could be a very appealing option, especially for someone coming from a CR-V. That said, let's wait for the official pricing and variant details before deciding. If it's priced too close to premium SUVs like the Kodiaq or BMW X1, it may be a tougher value proposition. For now, best would be to wait a little longer before making the final call.

If you regularly travel to destinations where charging infrastructure is limited, the Toyota Innova Hycross would be the better alternative.

I want to buy a safe and reliable car for a family of three and a dog. We previously used a Maruti Swift Dzire and typically take around 7-8 highway trips every year. The car will also be our primary vehicle for daily driving in Bangalore traffic. Now, I’m looking for a car that offers excellent safety, reliability, and low maintenance, with minimal service issues over the long term. Which cars would be the best options for our usage? Also, is it still a good idea to buy a petrol car, especially with the increasing adoption of E20 petrol and changing emission norms? For your usage, the Toyota Innova HyCross petrol is the best fit. You are coming from a Swift Dzire and want a safe, reliable family car for Bangalore traffic and 7-8 highway trips a year. The HyCross petrol is a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine with a CVT, so it is smooth, reliable and easy to drive in the city. This Toyota car is also a very comfortable highway car with a spacious cabin, good ride quality and Toyota’s strong reliability and service network. While hybrid cars are becoming increasingly popular, the HyCross hybrid is significantly more expensive and only makes sense if your running is high enough to justify the premium. For your usage, the regular petrol version is the better value.On fuel choice, E20 is not a concern. Modern petrol engines are engineered for E20, and there is no official roadmap beyond E20. Premium petrol is not required. The main impact of higher ethanol blends is slightly lower fuel economy, not reliability. Turbo-petrol engines are fine if you want performance, but for long-term ownership and low maintenance, a naturally aspirated petrol is the safer choice. Hybrids are worth considering only if your running is high enough to recover the premium.If you want a smaller car, the Kia Seltos is a good alternative. It feels premium, is spacious, has a smooth naturally aspirated petrol with a CVT, and Kia’s aftersales service is reliable too.

I want to buy a car at a reasonable price, but I really like the Mahindra Thar. I am a 56-year-old working woman and drive daily. Would the Thar be a comfortable and practical choice for my everyday use, or would you recommend a better alternative?

With a budget of under Rs 5 lakhs, you will only be able to get pre-owned examples of the first-gen Thar. And while it is a very appealing SUV, it is not the best choice for daily driving, especially if comfort is a priority. It is a rugged off-roader; however, the first-gen's ride is bouncy, entry-exit isn't very easy, and heavy steering and crude nature will become tiring for daily use. The side-facing rear seat is also neither safe nor comfortable, and overall, it is better suited as a lifestyle or weekend vehicle rather than a daily commuter.Since you have a Rs 5 lakh budget and you want something with good road presence, you could consider an SUV car which is compact and easy to drive. A Maruti Brezza or Ford EcoSport could be good options for daily driving.

With a daily running of around 100 km, fuel efficiency becomes a major factor in ownership costs. The Skoda Kushaq petrol automatic is a good car, but the 10-13kpl you are seeing is typical for a turbo petrol automatic, especially with E20 petrol. At this usage, a diesel or a strong hybrid makes far more sense.If you do regular highway runs, a diesel is still the most practical and cost-effective solution. The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic would be the recommendation here. It is a strong highway car, comfortable, spacious and the diesel engine will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency than your Kushaq. Diesel running costs will be far lower over your kind of mileage. If that is out of your budget, something smaller like a Kia Seltos diesel, while not as powerful, is even more efficient.If your usage is mostly city a strong hybrid could be a better solution. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the most practical and cost-effective option. It is well priced, has a proven track record and will dramatically reduce your running costs. The strong hybrid is better suited to the city, where it is more likely to run on its electric motor than use the engine and deliver the better mileage.

I’m planning to buy an EV with a budget of Rs. 19 - 20 lakh. My heart says the Tata Sierra EV Pure 63, but my mind says the Kia Syros top variant because of features like ventilated seats. Kindly suggest which one would be the better choice.

The choice really comes down to your usage and what you value in the car. If you need more space for both passengers and luggage and have a few long drives that you would undertake, then opt for the Tata Sierra. It is a much larger car and has a very spacious interior. The ride quality is also very good over both bad city roads as well as high highway speeds. If, however, your usage is mainly going to be within the city, then the Kia Syros is the better buy. Its compact footprint will be much easier to manage while driving congested streets, and finding parking would be easier. You would also enjoy the top variant of Kia car and its features.
