I am 61 and wish to buy a new car. My wife and I, sometimes along with friends, plan to travel extensively within India. Please advise a good, comfortable, and reliable vehicle with service centres all over India in case of issues. The same vehicle will be used for daily use in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

You have not specified your budget, but since you currently own a Maruti S-Cross, we assume you want nothing less than a mid-size SUV. Our default choice is the Hyundai Creta, which has been a tried-and-tested product for over a decade. It can be easily serviced across the country, giving you confidence for the many road trips you are planning.

Besides, the Hyundai Creta is a comfortable, spacious and feature-packed vehicle and is easy to spend long hours in. If you plan to do a lot of road trips, consider the 1.5 diesel variant. It is efficient and smooth when paired with a 6-speed auto.

You can also consider the Kia Seltos, which doesn’t have as good a sales network as Hyundai. But the Seltos, in its new avatar, is better than the Creta as a product. However, given your concern for a good service network, we would still advise you to go for the Creta.

Alongside Seltos Diesel, I was considering the Grand Vitara being a Hybrid Model. Please inform your views.

Poor or average interiors. Small boot space , expected battery replacement cost after 7-8 years nullified higher average. Better go with petrol AT model if you are ok with average interiors. Honda elevate manual top model is another choice for highways.

I m bit confused between to buy a seltos HTE and HTE(O) . Among these price difference is 1,30000. Is it worth buying HTE(O). Seat is bit comfortable than HTE. Is this possible to correct it in car decor?pls advise

Please suggest a good 5-seater NA petrol car with safety first, fuel efficiency, comfort, good handling and better ride quality.

Considering your requirements, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara would be a good option to consider. It has good space for five adults, and the petrol engine with the manual gearbox is frugal. It handles well and has a good ride that is tuned with respect to our road conditions. It has not been officially tested by BNCAP or GNCAP, but since it is based on the same platform as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza (which received a 4-star safety rating), the Grand Vitara, with its added features, is likely to earn a minimum of 4 stars. The other option would be the Hyundai Creta with its naturally aspirated engine that is well-suited to the city. It has good space, a comfy ride and good safety, but it will not be as efficient as the Maruti car.Since fuel efficiency is a high priority, we would recommend the Grand Vitara.

I am planning to buy a new car, preferably a mid-size SUV with a manual transmission, with a budget of ₹16-18 lakh. Currently, my monthly running is around 900 km, but it is expected to increase to about 2,000 km per month after 1.5 years. I have a family of five, so I am looking for a comfortable and spacious car that can serve us well for the next 6-7 years. At present, I drive a 2020 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Zeta and really appreciate its mileage and cabin space. However, mileage is not a major concern for my next car.

Given your requirements, we'd recommend the new Kia Seltos. It's got plenty of space for five and their luggage, it's very modern, and it's comfortable too. At your budget you can get a reasonably high variant, which means you will get lots of features too. Moreover, like its sister brand Hyundai, Kia has a good reputation for reliability, and so you can safely hold on to the car for six to seven years. The best bit is you have the choice of three engines - the naturally aspirated petrol, turbocharged petrol and diesel. The turbo petrol is not available with a traditional manual and gets a clutchless manual or iMT instead. It's a good option that mixes convenience with control, but frankly given your usage, we would recommend the naturally aspirated petrol with the 6-speed manual. It's a great combination of efficiency, smoothness and value for money.
