I'm looking for budget 7-seater for my family, have shortlisted Triber emotion, Gravite Tekna, Ertiga LXI and VXI, Bolero Neo N11. Family size 5 Adults + 1 kid. Purpose Occasional long trips with family, and mostly city driving and low distance driving. Yearly 6000kms. I currently have Tigor CNG which is very good with mileage and safety but issues with space. Which one should i prefer as above options

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXi petrol - for your family size, mostly city use, and a few long trips, it is the most comfortable and easy-to-own choice in your list. Coming from a Tigor CNG, the Ertiga will feel far roomier in the second row and the third row will work well for the child and shorter adults on shorter runs. It rides bumps well, the steering is light, and the engine feels smooth in traffic. Parking is not hard for its size, and Maruti’s wide service network makes ownership simple almost anywhere.

One thing to be aware of: with all three rows up, the boot is small, so for holidays you will likely fold one part of the third row or use a roof carrier. Also, when fully loaded on a steep hill, the petrol engine feels just okay rather than strong, so you will need a gentle driving style. If you want lower fuel spend and don’t mind losing boot space, the Ertiga VXi CNG is worth a look, though it feels a bit slower with the air-con and full family on board.

Pick the Renault Triber / Nissan Gravite only if budget is tight and parking space is very tight - it is cleverly laid out but the engine feels weak with six onboard. Choose the Mahindra Bolero Neo only if your roads are really rough and you need a tough, high-clearance vehicle - its city comfort and side-facing third row are not ideal for family use.

If you can, test the Ertiga with all six seats in use and drive a short hill or flyover - that will tell you if petrol or CNG suits you better.

Within Rs 10-15 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the best all rounder. It gives the most usable third row at this price, so adults can sit there for short to medium drives, and the ride stays comfortable over broken roads. The light steering and good all-round visibility make it easy to handle in traffic, and when you fold the last row you get a big boot for airport runs or luggage-heavy trips. Its got excellent fuel economy, and in your budget, you should be able to get a top spec version and even an automatic gearbox if you like. You could also try Toyota's version of the Ertiga - the Rumion - or if you want captain's chairs in the middle row, there is the Maruti Suzuki XL6.Some things to note: with seven on board the petrol will need a few more gear changes on hills, and you only get the option of a single petrol engine or a CNG version. Another great option is the Kia Carens Clavis, which is big on space, practicality, comfort and quality. However, at your budget, you will only get lower variants and the basic 1.5-litre petrol engine, and will have to spend more to get the turbo petrol or diesel versions. If you're able to up your budget by a few lakhs, it is definitely worth considering.

It rides smoother than the Wagon R on broken city roads, so you and your family feel less tired. The steering and clutch are light, and the car feels steady on the highway. You also get a big boot for bags, while the car still stays easy to park in tight spots.Two small trade-offs: the seat is lower than the Wagon R, so you sit less upright, and you need to bend a bit more to get in and out.If a high, easy step-in seat is your top need, the Wagon R ZXi works well for short city trips and narrow lanes, but it can feel bouncy on bad patches and is not as wide for two adults in the back. Asking on behalf of a colleague. He plans to buy an EV for regular use, which includes weekly office work (3-4 days), weekend trips with his small family, all within the Bangalore city area. He has booked the Mahindra XEV 9S. Should we wait for the launch of Sierra EV, as it is a bit smaller in size, which may be useful for his city usage? Also, since the Sierra petrol and diesel are still not visible on Bangalore roads as of mid-May 2026, despite having a huge hype during launch, would waiting for the Sierra EV be a wise decision or just a waste of time? Can the increasing petrol price lead to an increase in the cost of EVs? The Bangalore government has already removed the road tax discount on EVs.

The Mahindra XEV 9S is the more sensible choice rather than waiting for the Tata Sierra EV. With no firm launch date for the Sierra EV and uncertain delivery timelines, it makes more sense to opt for the XEV 9S, which is already on sale.Yes, the XEV 9S is a bit larger than the Tata; however, its light steering, tight turning radius, good visibility and driving aids make it surprisingly easy to drive and live with.Coming to the second part of your question, Karnataka has introduced new slabs for EV road tax from May 1, 2026, so on-road prices are higher than before, but still running costs remain much lower than petrol. Since your colleague is buying the car now, it will save him from any potential price hikes due to the higher battery import cost or any new taxes.

The low ground clearance of BYD Seal is something you can live with, especially if you're used to driving sedans. Its nose sits low and the distance between the wheels is long, so tall, badly built breakers and sharp ramp crests can make it touch, especially with four or five people and luggage. However on regular speed breakers, it is likely to clear if you slow right down, and you don't necessarily need to take them at a slight angle.The underbody and battery are protected, so even if it scrapes a few times, it should not be a cause of concern, however, it will feel gut-wrenching to hear the underbody scrape over the unscientifically-built speed humps.Before finalizing, if your daily route has extra-tall breakers or a tricky ramp, take a test drive on that exact path. If it clears there, you’ll be fine in regular use.
