Hello, I am looking for a car under Rs. 10 lakh as a first-time buyer, with a spacious second row where three healthy adults can sit comfortably without feeling claustrophobic. My usage will be limited to family trips and not for daily commuting.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO would be ideal as it has the widest rear seat, thus your requirement of seating 3 healthy individuals would be best served here. This Mahindra car is also short in length and thus for a first car would not be too challenging to drive. Fuel efficiency will not be as good as rivals like say the Maruti Suzuki Brezza but given your limited running this should not bother you too much. Opt for the 1.2 litre MPFi engine as it performance is more than adequate for regular use.

Edited: I am currently driving a Tata Punch and am planning to upgrade. My budget is around Rs. 15 lakh. I'm looking for a car that offers: a reliable and refined engine, good torque and performance, especially for hilly drives and mountain roads, peace of mind in terms of ownership, reasonable service and maintenance costs (not overly expensive like Tata), and Good long-term reliability. Go for the Hyundai Venue. It has a five-star Bharat NCAP rating, good features, a quality cabin and good reliability, with a wide-reaching service network and reasonable costs. You also have two petrol engines to choose from a 1.2 naturally aspirated, and a more powerful 1.0 turbocharged, both of which are smooth and efficient. The Mahindra XUV 3XO also offers a strong feature list, 5-star safety rating, good ride comfort and a powerful 1.2 turbo petrol engine. However it is not as fuel efficient as the Venue, and Mahindra's aftersales and service experience isn't as well reputed as Hyundai's. Overall, the Venue is a better all-rounder.Do note, however, that on your Rs. 12 lakh budget, both these SUVs will only be available in their mid-range variants, so you won't get all the features they could have on offer. If you want maximum bang for your buck, check out the Nissan Magnite 1.0 Turbo. It's spacious, reliable, feature loaded, powerful enough and you can even get an auto gearbox in your budget.

I currently own a Skoda Kushaq Petrol AT. Everything is fine except the mileage. I am getting only around 10-13kpl with E20 petrol. My daily running is around 100 km. Should I buy a diesel car or an electric car?

With a daily running of around 100 km, fuel efficiency becomes a major factor in ownership costs. The Skoda Kushaq petrol automatic is a good car, but the 10-13kpl you are seeing is typical for a turbo petrol automatic, especially with E20 petrol. At this usage, a diesel or a strong hybrid makes far more sense.If you do regular highway runs, a diesel is still the most practical and cost-effective solution. The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic would be the recommendation here. It is a strong highway car, comfortable, spacious and the diesel engine will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency than your Kushaq. Diesel running costs will be far lower over your kind of mileage. If that is out of your budget, something smaller like a Kia Seltos diesel, while not as powerful, is even more efficient.If your usage is mostly city a strong hybrid could be a better solution. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the most practical and cost-effective option. It is well priced, has a proven track record and will dramatically reduce your running costs.
