Can I convert my 2019 Skoda Superb L&K petrol automatic to a diesel engine?

No, we would not recommend converting your 2019 Skoda Superb L&K petrol automatic to a diesel engine. Modern cars are highly integrated systems, and an engine swap from petrol to diesel is far more complex than it might appear. It is not simply a case of replacing the engine; you would also need to change the transmission, ECU, wiring harness, fuel system, exhaust system, cooling system and potentially even suspension components. The cost of such a conversion would be extremely high, and there is no guarantee that the car would function as intended afterwards.

More importantly, such a modification would not be legal under current Indian regulations. The RC of the car specifies the fuel type, and changing it from petrol to diesel is not permitted. The car would not pass RTO inspection, and you would not be able to legally register or insure it.

If you are looking for a diesel car, the best option is to sell your current Superb and purchase a diesel vehicle. This will be far more cost-effective, reliable and legal than attempting a conversion.

If you can secure a parking spot with a power connection, even in a standalone building, an EV is perfectly viable. Without that, ownership becomes inconvenient and potentially expensive, as you are dependent on public charging infrastructure and higher charging costs.CNG is not necessarily the default alternative. It only makes sense if your running is high enough to justify the fuel savings, and you have access to CNG stations along your regular routes. Since you already own a sedan, you could consider replacing it with the updated Skoda Slavia. It gets a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine and now comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It is very good to drive, feels solidly built, and with ample ground clearance, you don't need to worry about unusually tall speedbreakers either. The 2026 version also comes with an updated air-con unit for better cabin cooling.Alternatively, you could look at the Hyundai Verna 1.5 Petrol IVT. It is a smooth, feature-rich sedan, and is backed by Hyundai's widespread support network.Since there are no EV sedans in the market, you will have to opt for a crossover like the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor or Kia Syros in that price point. Out of these, the Syros feels the most comfortable and user-friendly, and if you don't mind the way it looks, it is worth a serious consideration. But opt for an EV only if you can arrange for home charging, as relying on public charging can be a bit tricky.
