I am confused about which EV would be the best choice: the BMW iX1, a Volvo EV, or Mahindra XEV 9S. Are there any other EVs that I should also consider before making a decision? My only concern with the BMW iX1 is its interior.

The BMW iX1, Volvos and Mahindra XEV 9S are all quite different propositions, so the ‘best’ one really depends on what you value beyond interiors.

The BMW iX1 is actually one of the more practical luxury EVs, with a spacious cabin. a genuinely premium feel and strong performance, which makes it very good value in the luxury EV space. If your only concern is that the interior doesn’t wow you visually, it’s still worth a serious look because the perceived quality, ergonomics and driving experience are all very strong.

Assuming you’re referring to the Volvo EC40 and EX30, both offer very classy, minimalist cabins with high-quality materials and that typical Scandinavian design feel, but with almost everything controlled via the touchscreen. However, they are not very spacious; the EX30 in particular is tight at the rear, with limited legroom and a cramped bench

The Mahindra XEV 9S cannot match the Europeans for material richness or finesse of fit and finish, but it is fantastic value and absolutely nails space, comfort and features, especially if you need a proper family EV and possibly seven seats. If interior design “feel” matters more than outright luxury, the 9S may actually make you happiest in daily use, while the BMW is the better pick if you want a true luxury EV with strong dynamics.

try BYD SEALI9N7. XEV 9S is a overall good SUV with spacious interiors. But if you are brand conscious then you can decide accordingly. Xev9s is a better deal

I have driven the BMW iX1 extensively in Norway last year and now here in India I just bought the XEV9s , Honestly I did not find any difference in ride quality, suspension, and features between the 2.I truly feel that the xev scores a little higher in terms of Features and space

Depends on your travel. City or highways. If 90% city driving, then value for money will surely be Windsor as it comes with lesser battery pack capacity. XEV 9S is one time

Hi, I have been driving a Hyundai i20 Diesel as my personal car, and we have a Toyota Fortuner for family use. Now, over the next 3 to 4 months, I am planning to upgrade my i20 to an EV for my daily commute. My budget is around Rs 30 lakh. My top priorities are performance, cabin comfort, and good ride quality. Please suggest a good 5-seater EV. I was waiting to check out the Skoda Elroq and Mahindra BE 07, but it seems their launches will involve a wait. The Mahindra XEV 9e is the best electric vehicle for your needs at the moment. It offers the best package with good ride quality, great refinement, and a loaded feature set. Alternatively, you could also look at the Mahindra XEV 9S that offers the added flexibility of third-row seats, in case that is something you value. The Tata Harrier EV is the other electric vehicle that you should have in mind. It offers really cushy ride quality at low speeds and excellent performance. The Mahindra BE07 is scheduled to debut in early 2027, but could be on the pricey side and just out of your budget. There is no confirmation on when Skoda will bring the Elroq to India, though it is on the cards for an India launch.

I am planning to buy the first car for our family, with a budget of Rs 20-25 lakh. After researching and test-driving several cars, including the Renault Duster 1.3 turbo manual, Nissan Tekton 1.3 manual and AMT, Volkswagen Taigun 1.5, Skoda Kushaq 1.5 and 1.0, Tata Sierra diesel manual and AMT, and Mahindra XUV 3XO, I have narrowed down my choices. I mostly prefer a top-end manual variant. I am now confused between the Nissan Tekton 1.3 manual, Renault Duster 1.3 manual, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq 1.0 and 1.5. My priorities are performance, safety, rear passenger comfort and an engaging driving experience. Which car would you recommend from these options? If there are any other cars in this segment that I should consider, please let me know.

Out of the cars you have mentioned, the Renault Duster 1.3 with a manual gearbox would be our suggestion. The 163hp engine has good punch, and while the third gear is rather tall, other factors like ride and handling make it a much better car to drive. The Nissan Tekton features the same setup with a different design, so between the two it boils down to design preference and proximity of a dealership. Both Renault and Nissan cars offer limited touchpoints, so ensure there is a dealership near you. Within your budget, the Duster in its top-spec guise will fit right in, and it also offers a good amount of equipment. The suspension and ride comfort are segment best, and the steering has good consistency to make it fun around corners. The VW and Skoda cars mentioned above fall short in ride comfort compared to the Duster and Tekton.

I currently own a 2018 Maruti Suzuki Baleno petrol and am planning to buy a new car. After a lot of research, I’ve narrowed it down to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris ZXi(O), which comes under Rs 15 lakh with Bharat Series (BH) registration. The dealer is offering a big discount: Rs 2.30 lakh for my Baleno, an exchange bonus of Rs 50,000 and an additional discount of up to Rs 2.50 lakh. I drive about 7,000-8,000 km a year. I’m a smooth, relaxed driver who values long-term reliability and takes occasional trips to the hills. Should I go ahead with the Victoris, or should I consider other options?

The Victoris is a good fit for your needs and will feel like a substantial upgrade over your Baleno. Since your running is fairly minimal, the mild-hybrid version you are considering makes more sense than the strong hybrid. It will offer decent fuel efficiency around town and enough power for occasional hill trips.If you are looking for alternatives, consider the Honda Elevate. It also offers a smooth 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, but has a bit more performance on tap than the Victoris. The Kia Seltos is another strong contender, with a premium, roomy cabin, although it may exceed your budget.Overall, the Victoris is a good choice and offers good value for money.

I am planning to buy the top-end Hyundai Creta Turbo Petrol DCT variant. My daily running is around 50–100km, which adds up to approximately 25,000–30,000km annually. I am looking for a car that offers strong performance and quick acceleration, along with a comprehensive set of comfort and convenience features. Should I buy the current Creta Turbo Petrol DCT top variant or wait for the 2027 Creta? For context, I currently own a 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Hybrid and a Volkswagen Virtus GT 1.5 TSI.

The 2027 Hyundai New Creta will be thoroughly updated inside-out, and it'll have more tech and features. If you don't mind waiting, it makes sense to get the 2027 new-gen model. Do note, its powertrain options are likely to be carried forward from the current version. If you can't wait, but still want the performance as well as the latest in terms of tech and features, consider the Kia Seltos turbo-dct instead, which packs in more or less everything the next-gen Creta is likely to offer.

I’m planning to buy a new car, and my annual running is around 40,000km, primarily involving highway drives and ghat sections. I have shortlisted the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX and the upcoming facelifted Toyota Innova Hycross ZX. I’m considering two approaches: either buy the Innova Hycross and keep it for the next 10 years, given its reputation for longevity and the expectation that its engine can last at least 4 lakh kilometres, or buy the Seltos, drive it for around 2 lakh kilometres over 4–5 years, sell it and upgrade to a brand-new Seltos or another car of a similar price and size. On paper, the Innova Hycross Hybrid seems like the better choice, considering its long-term reliability and features such as the Ottoman reclining seats. However, I’m concerned that I might get bored of it after four years or that it may start feeling outdated as newer technologies and features enter the market. This makes the second option appealing, as it would allow me to upgrade to a brand-new car every 4–5 years. Which approach would make more sense in the long run, considering my high annual running and ownership costs?

It seems like you're leaning towards the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX, and we think it is a good choice. The diesel engine feels adequately powered for highway usage and ghat driving, and it is likely to return respectable efficiency too. Moreover, despite being modern with all the latest tech and features, the Seltos will be substantially more affordable than the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid. So unless you need the Innova's extra space, or you frequently travel with six or seven passengers, the Kia Seltos diesel is your best bet.
