Hello, I am planning to purchase an automatic car purely for city use, with a daily running of roughly 20 km. I currently own a Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT, which is now 10 years old, and that is the primary reason for this upgrade. My priorities are easy ingress and egress for seniors, comfort, and strong AC performance. My budget is around ₹10 lakh, which can stretch up to ₹12 lakh. I am considering the Taisor S Plus AMT, Kylaq Signature AT, Sonet HTK(O) DCT, XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT, and Venue HX5 DCT. Could you please advise which would be the best choice for my requirements?

Among your choices, the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT is a good fit for your needs. For 20km/day city use, the torque-converter automatic is smoother than the AMT in the Taisor and the DCTs in the Venue and Sonet. It is also more spacious than the Skoda Kylaq, and its tall stance makes it easier to get in and out of than the Taisor. The ride is smooth over speed breakers and potholes, and the AC cools quickly in summer.

Before you make your final decision, visit the dealerships along with the seniors in your family to see which one they find most comfortable.

Hi, I want to buy a mini SUV with a budget between ₹15-20 lakh. My annual running is around 8,000-9,000 km, mostly in the city. Do you think I would be better off with a strong hybrid or an EV? I had almost finalised the Skoda Kylaq Prestige Plus because of its features and safety rating. However, I then considered extending my budget to ₹20 lakh and going for the Toyota Hyryder Hybrid G variant. I am still confused- given my usage, do I really need a hybrid, or is it a smart choice? I do not plan to replace the car for at least 3 years. Please guide me.

While the strong-hybrid Toyota Hyryder will deliver better efficiency in the city than the Skoda Kylaq, with your limited running, the savings won’t be enough to offset the higher purchase price. Since you are mostly driving in the city, the Kylaq with its smooth-shifting torque-converter automatic is a smart choice. However, in our experience, the refinement and low-end torque from the engine have room for improvement. The rear seat is also a bit cramped compared to rivals like the Mahindra XUV 3XO.Do take a test drive to see if these are deal-breakers for you.

My yearly running is 15,000 km, mainly on highways. I am searching for a car that provides good safety and very comfortable rear seats for long journeys, as I have elders who travel with me. Good thigh support for long journeys is important. My budget is ₹12 lakh. Which car should I consider, and which fuel type?

There are quite a few options within your budget, but we'll trim the list down to the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (and its twin, the Toyota Rumion). The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a tough compact SUV with a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. It is quite roomy for its size with ample space at the back. Good ride comfort is also a plus. Punchy engines also make it well-suited to highway drives. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza isn't as punchy as the Mahindra XUV 3XO, but it has very comfortable rear seats, good ride comfort, and is very easy to get into and out of, which your parents will appreciate. If you are open to a larger vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXi (or higher spec) ZXi is an option. The large rear doors and elevated seating position make getting in and out very comfortable. The large rear windows, backrest adjust, and soft seat cushioning are other aspects your parents will like. Performance isn't great, but power is enough for relaxed highway drives.

Hello Autocar, we have shortlisted a few petrol automatic options around ₹15 lakh on-road budget that seem to fit our requirements: Skoda Kylaq Signature+, Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5L, Tata Nexon Creative+, and Hyundai Venue HX8. We are also wondering whether it would be worth waiting for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift before making a decision. Considering our priorities: ease of driving for first-time drivers, rear-seat comfort for family use, safety, reliability, and low maintenance over 10 years. Which of these petrol automatic variants would you recommend as the best overall choice for us? Also, are there any major pros or cons we should be aware of these models in terms of long-term ownership and service experience? Thank you!

For your requirement of a first-time driver-friendly petrol automatic under ₹15 lakh, with focus on rear-seat comfort, safety, reliability and low maintenance, we would suggest opting for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5L automatic. The reason is that it offers the best overall balance as a package. It is easy to drive in the city, with smooth automatic and light controls, which suits first-time drivers. At the same time, it has a more spacious and wider cabin, making it a more comfortable car for family use. In fact, among these options, it offers the best rear-seat space and comfort, which is a key requirement for you. It also has a strong turbo petrol engine, which makes highway drives more effortless, and overall, it feels like a more complete and future-proof choice. On the Brezza facelift, it is worth waiting only if your top priority is low maintenance and long-term peace of mind, as Maruti ownership is typically the easiest. Otherwise, your current shortlist already offers better performance and features.
