India’s Mahaveer Raghunathan returned to the podium in the Italian GT Sprint Championship, this time taking class victory at Imola. With this, Raghunathan and his teammate Lorenzo Ferrari move up to third place overall in the GT3 Pro-Am class. Crucially, they’re just two points behind class leaders Mattia Michelotto and Ignazio Zanon, with one more round to go.

  1. Raghunathan, Ferrari win Race 2 at Imola (GT3 Pro-Am class)
  2. Move up to third place in standings

Raghunathan is perhaps best known for his controversial F2 ban, but he’s now looking to prove himself in GT racing. In September, he finished second overall in the Pro-Am class of the Italian GT Endurance Championship, with a podium finish at Mugello. He’s now hoping to better that result in the Italian GT Sprint Championship.

The Indian racer and his teammate Ferrari were in contention for a podium finish in Race 1 at Imola, but a jump-start penalty dropped them to P10 overall. They bounced back in Race 2, finishing P4 overall, which was also good enough for victory in the GT3 Pro-Am class.

“Race 2 at Imola was incredible. After a great qualifying, starting top five overall, we fought our way forward, and I handed the car to Lorenzo in a strong position,” said Raghunathan.

“In Race 1, we were well on course for the overall win. We had built a strong 16-second gap to P2 after the pit stops during my stint. Unfortunately, a jump-start penalty cost us the overall Race 1 win. But bouncing back with the Pro-Am win in Race 2 felt great after Saturday’s disappointment. Still, standing on the top step of the podium at such an iconic track feels fantastic and shows what our team can do.”

With 81 points, Raghunathan and Ferrari are currently third in the GT3 Pro-Am standings – just a point adrift of BMW Ceccato Racing’s William Alatalo and Leonardo Caglioni and two points behind class leaders Mattia Michelotto and Ignazio Zanon.

The last round of the championship will be held at Monza on October 24-26, 2025.
