Mahindra Racing returned to the top step of the Formula E podium, with Nyck de Vries winning the Monaco E Prix. This marks the Indian team’s first victory in nearly five years (the last one was at the 2021 London E Prix) and well as its first win in the Gen 3 era.

Jaguar’s Mitch Evans crossed the line in second place to take the drivers’ championship lead. Cupra Kiro’s Pepe Marti finished third, securing his very first Formula E podium.

Nyck de Vries wins Monaco E Prix for Mahindra

Starting from P2 on the grid, de Vries held position off the line behind polesitter Dan Ticktum. The Mahindra driver was one of the first few to take his Pit Boost stop. That ended being a race-winning strategy as Ticktum re-joined the grid behind de Vries after this stop.

De Vries then smartly timed his Attack Mode to pass Antonio Felix da Costa and take the race lead on Lap 20. He held that lead to the chequered flag to secure his first win with Mahindra.

“I’m very happy. Monaco is a special place. It’s my home. To do that together with Mahindra, and to give them the reward they deserve is just incredible. We’ve been very strong today. We’ve had a tough time until this point in the season, so it’s nice to bounce back and score maximum points for the team,” said de Vries.

“We’ve had some challenges so far this season and we haven’t really been able to show what we’re capable of. Today it all came together, and it just felt like it was the perfect day and place to do it. “

Challenging race for Mortara

It was a difficult race for Mahindra’s lead driver in the championship, Edoardo Mortara. A mechanical issue in qualifying left him starting from P19 on the grid. He made good progress through the race and even broke into the top 10, but dropped to P17 after suffering a puncture.

He still holds on to third place in the drivers’ standings, though, and will have another chance to collect some strong points at the second Monaco race later today (May 17).

Ticktum loses podium after penalty

Ticktum finished third on road, but was handed a 33-second penalty for making contact with Jaguar’s da Costa. This dropped him to P12, while promoting his teammate Marti to third place, followed by Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich and Evision’s Sebastien Buemi.

2025-26 Formula championship standings

Evans now takes the drivers’ championship lead, 15 points ahead of Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein. Mortara remains third overall, eight points behind Wehrlein and 23 points behind Evans.
Mahindra also holds on to third place in the teams’ standings. But de Vries’ win has helped the team close the gap to second-placed Porsche to 44 points.
