Chandhok's JRM team 11th in first Le Mans quali

Indian driver Karun Chandhok's JRM Racing team finished 11th quickest overall at the opening night qualifying session at the 2012 24 hours of Le Mans.

JRM made the step up to Le Mans after its FIA GT1 World Championship title victory last year with the trio of Australian David Brabham, Brit Peter Dumbreck and Karun Chandhok driving the Honda HPD ARX-03a in the LMP1 category.

Earlier in the day, David opened running in the practice session for JRM with three runs in the first 90 minutes. The Le Mans 2009 winner recorded the team’s best time of 3:34.641, 10th in the overall classification.

David then handed the HPD over to Karun, but the Indian reported some instability on the rear of the car on his second run and ran wide into the gravel on the first corner. He returned to the pits for checks before David got back in the car to compare set-ups with the beginning of the session. .

Dumbreck was behind the wheel next, completing four timed laps with the team’s overall best time of 3:37.088.

At the head of the order, the Audi factory team continued its expected domination, with the radical
'e-tron' hybrid entries narrowly outpacing their in-house 'Ultra' rivals and the pair of debutant Toyota TS030 Hybrids.
