Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo will be stepping down from the role on July 15. The 58-year-old Italian joined Renault from Seat in January 2020. At the helm for over five years, he was responsible for key decisions at Renault as well as other subsidiaries of the group. Reports suggest that Kering, parent to luxury fashion brand Gucci, is set to name De Meo as its next boss.

  1. De Meo was responsible for reviving the Renault 5 and 4 as EVs
  2. Also played a key role in Bigster’s development
  3. Renault has not named De Meo’s successor yet

‘Renaulution’ project

Renault 4, 5 EVs and Bigster part of the plan

The Dacia Bigster is a result of the Renaulution project.

Within a year of joining Renault, De Meo introduced the 'Renaulution' (a portmanteau of Renault and revolution) in January 2021, which aimed to shift strategy from "volume to value". The plan aimed to widen the budget-brand Dacia's line-up, reinvent Alpine as an all-electric performance brand, and launch 24 new vehicles by 2025 (spread across Renault, Dacia, Alpine, Lada and Energize). Some of the most prominent projects to come out of this were the revival of Renault 4 and Renault 5 as electric vehicles, and the Dacia Bigster.

No details as of yet

Renault is currently looking for a new Group CEO based on the "already defined succession plan". Till then, De Meo will continue in his role. "There comes a time in one’s life when one knows the job is done," de Meo said. "The results speak for themselves: they are the best in our history. We have a strong team and an agile organisation. We also have a strategic plan ready for the next generation of products," he added.
