Hi, I am planning to buy a sub-4-metre automatic SUV but am confused between the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi AT, Hyundai Venue HX5 DCT, Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX M (O)/Edge, Kia Sonet HTK (O) DCT and Tata Nexon Creative DCA. Which of these would offer the best value for money? Do the reliability and overheating issues associated with DCT/DCA gearboxes still persist? My priorities are good real-world fuel efficiency and a smooth, reliable automatic gearbox. Driver-seat visibility and the availability of a reverse camera are also important considerations. Which would you recommend based on these requirements?

Given that fuel economy and gearbox smoothness are priorities for you, we'd recommend you consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXI AT. Its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and six-speed automatic gearbox combination work very well to give a smooth drive. While it's not particularly sporty or exciting, it makes up for it with a pleasant driving experience. The Brezza's elevated seating also gives you a good view of the road and the reverse camera quality is decent.Of the others, the Tata Nexon Creative DCA offers the smoothest gearbox. However fuel economy will not be at par with the Brezza. In fact, none of the other contenders on your shortlist, which use turbo-petrol engines, will be able to match the Brezza on real-world fuel economy.

I’m from Visakhapatnam and am planning to buy a new SUV. I have been using a Honda Amaze diesel since 2013. Before that, I owned a Maruti 800 for 10 years. I am 63 years old and retired, and my annual running will be around 9,000-10,000 km. My driving will mostly involve a mix of city and highway use, and I intend to keep the car for 10-12 years. Mileage is one of my biggest priorities, followed by looks, driving enjoyment and long-term ownership costs. My budget is around Rs 16-17 lakh, and I want an automatic transmission. I also have a home charging facility. Should I consider the Kia Syros EV? My main concern is its boxy styling, which I don't particularly like. I also don't want a panoramic sunroof. Could you suggest which variant would suit my requirements from the following options: Kia Syros EV, Hyundai Bayon, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Grand Vitara, Fronx facelift, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder?

If you can get past the styling of the Kia Syros EV, it is a compelling option for your requirements. It is smooth and powerful; the regenerative braking is beautifully calibrated, and the real-world range is good. Despite being under four metres long, it is surprisingly spacious and has a large boot, making it practical for family use. With home charging available and your intention to keep the car for 10 to 12 years, it is worth serious consideration. Just make sure you are comfortable with the design before committing. If you prefer an ICE vehicle and fuel efficiency is your biggest priority, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris strong hybrid is worth looking at. With current offers, it could come close to your budget, and its biggest advantage is fuel economy, with over 20kpl possible even in city driving.

I am planning to buy a petrol automatic subcompact SUV primarily for city driving, with a monthly running of hardly 300km. My main priorities are reliability and rear seat comfort. Which would be a better choice between the Skoda Kylaq and Kia Sonet, considering my requirements?

With just 300 km a month and city use, reliability and rear seat comfort should be your main priorities. The Skoda Kylaq is the better choice here. It uses a proven 1.0 TSI engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic, which is a reliable and smooth combination for city driving. The Kylaq also offers a more comfortable rear seat experience, with better legroom and a more supportive bench, making it a better family car for daily use. The Kia Sonet is a good car, but the Kylaq edges it out on rear seat comfort and overall driving experience. At your running petrol is the right choice and another good option could be the Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 L automatic, which has a comfier rear seat, a smoother drive experience and a better low speed ride.

I am planning to buy a subcompact SUV with an on-road budget of up to Rs. 15 lakh in the NCR. The options I am considering are the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. An automatic transmission is a necessity. I prefer a reliable car with good after-sales service, as I want to avoid frequent visits to service centres. Mileage is not a major concern, as my annual running will be less than 5,000 km. I am evaluating these options against the Skoda Kylaq Sportline, as I am concerned about the E20 fuel-related issues reported by other owners. Which car would you recommend for reliable and hassle-free ownership?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Sportline automatic. Your priorities are clear: reliability, low running costs, an automatic, and minimal service headaches. The Kylaq is a genuinely good driver's car with a proven 1.0 TSI engine and a 6-speed torque converter automatic that is smooth and well suited to city driving. Skoda has improved its service network in NCR, and the Kylaq is a solid product with a good ownership track record. On the E20 concern, do not overthink it. The Kylaq is E20 compliant, and modern engines are engineered with sufficient tolerance for E20. There is no official roadmap beyond E20, and the impact is largely limited to a slight drop in fuel economy. The XUV 3XO is a strong value proposition with more features and a wider cabin, but the Kylaq feels more premium and is the better driver's car. The Brezza and Urban Cruiser Taisor are the safe, reliable choices with excellent service reach, but they are not as engaging to drive and feel less premium inside. The Venue is a good all-rounder, but the Kylaq offers a better driving experience. With your low running costs and focus on reliability, the Kylaq Sportline automatic is the right balance of driving enjoyment, premium feel and long-term ownership confidence.

I am looking for an automatic SUV under Rs 14 lakh, preferably with a torque-converter or CVT gearbox. The car will primarily be used for city driving, with occasional highway trips and long-distance journeys. I am leaning towards a petrol model rather than an EV, as I feel EV charging infrastructure is still not widely available. My main priorities are mileage and long-term reliability. I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Skoda Kylaq, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza automatic. Your priorities are mileage, reliability and predominantly city driving, and the Brezza lines up perfectly with that brief. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is proven, the 6-speed torque converter automatic is smooth and reliable, and Maruti's service network and low maintenance costs make it a very easy car to own long-term. It is also one of the more fuel-efficient naturally aspirated petrol SUVs in the segment, which matters given your usage pattern. The Skoda Kylaq and Mahindra XUV 3XO are both excellent cars, but they are turbo petrols and will not be as fuel efficient in city conditions. The Hyundai Venue is a good all-rounder, but it comes with a DCT automatic that is nowhere as smooth as a CVT or torque converter. The Brezza is not the most exciting car to drive, but it is the most sensible choice for your requirements.
