The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the right choice for you. It's a sensible and no-nonsense compact SUV that delivers everything you want. It's easy to drive, ride comfort is good, and there's ample room for 4 passengers. The Brezza is also reasonably fuel-efficient as petrol automatic cars go. The Brezza is also reliable, and maintenance costs are affordable. Maruti's massive service network also adds peace of mind to the ownership experience. The Brezza doesn't feel as exciting or punchy as turbocharged rivals, especially out on highway drives, but performance, on the whole, is fair. The Brezza doesn't have a Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP safety rating, but we expect the updated model to be put to the test. The updated Brezza goes on sale later this month and would be the one to look out for.

The Venue's turbo-petrol engine does deliver punchier performance than the Brezza, but fuel economy isn't as good. If you want a larger SUV, there's the Honda Elevate CVT. However, the new driver in the family might not feel as comfortable driving it, given its size. If the hatchback form factor suits you, the Hyundai i20 CVT is a very likeable choice. Among EVs, the Punch EV is an option, but your running doesn't really justify going electric. You'd rather spend similar money on a larger or better-equipped petrol-automatic car.

Our suggestion would be to keep it in the Skoda family and pick the Kushaq. Your 600km highway runs will feel the easiest in this one, thanks to the TSI engine's strong pull and a stable, confident high-speed feel. Coming from a Fabia, you will also like the familiar solid build, but it's still compact enough for your weekend city drives. For your usage, the 1.5 TSI with the DSG gearbox is honestly the better bet, as it has the stronger yet smoother engine, snappier gearbox and almost no fuel economy penalty thanks to clever cylinder deactivation tech.However, these variants are several lakhs outside your budget, so you might have to choose the 1.0 TSI, which is also very good. The Kylaq with the 1.0 TSI is also a good bet, but it won't feel as significant an update from your Fabia in terms of size.The Honda Elevate hybrid, sadly, does not look like it will see the light of day, as Honda is focused on bringing out its midsize EV first, and other all-new models thereafter. You could look at the Elevate petrol, however, which is plenty efficient enough on its own. However, we still think the Kushaq is the best option for you.

Coming from a Tiago, the Kylaq will feel like a substantial upgrade in terms of performance, refinement, ride quality and overall sophistication. Its turbo-petrol engine paired with the automatic gearbox is smooth and responsive in city driving, while also being reasonably efficient for a compact SUV. Given that 90% of your usage is in the city, it strikes an excellent balance between ease of driving, comfort and fuel economy.The Mahindra XUV 3XO Automatic would be the second choice. It offers a more spacious cabin, especially for rear-seat passengers, and comes loaded with features. However, despite being roomier inside, it has a smaller boot than the Kylaq, and real-world fuel efficiency is unlikely to be quite as good.As for hybrids, there are currently no strong hybrid SUVs available within your Rs 12-14 lakh budget. Models such as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid and Maruti Grand Vitara Hybrid sit in a significantly higher price bracket.

It feels stronger during quick overtakes, has a much bigger boot, and offers a more modern interior.It all boils down to your usage split. If your daily route involves a lot of traffic lights, congestion and urban speeds, the Hyryder will save you more money each month and feel easier to live with.
