My monthly running is around 3000 km mostly on highways. I need a family car for 4 members. For me, family safety and comfort is priority. Which car should I buy between diesel or EV? Suggest me diesel as well as EV under a budget of around 25 lakhs.
With 3,000 km a month, mostly on highways, diesel is the clear recommendation. At that running, the fuel cost advantage of diesel becomes significant, and the long highway stretches play to the strengths of modern diesel engines. EVs are best suited to predictable city commutes with home charging, and while they can do highways, the charging infrastructure and stop planning still add friction on long, frequent trips. For the car, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the recommendation. It is one of the most comfortable and spacious family SUVs in the segment, with a strong diesel engine that is well suited to highway cruising. It also has a good safety package and a comfortable ride, which is important for long-distance family travel. Within R.s 25 lakh budget, the AX7 variant will be ideal and you can opt between a 6-speed automatic or a less expensive 6-speed manual. Both gearboxes are smooth and easy to use. Also while the XUV 7XO does not get ADAS in this AX7 trim, you still get 6 airbags, a 360° camera, and your essential electronic safety assets as well. It has also scored a perfect 5-star rating for crash safety in Bharat NCAP so that adds some more reassurance as well. I want to buy a new car with a budget of around Rs. 15 lakh. I am open to either diesel or EV options. My annual running is around 12,000 km, including 4-5 highway trips a year. I have a family of four adults. Which car and variant should I consider?
Given your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is the most sensible recommendation. The diesel engine is efficient and well suited to your usage pattern, and the 3XO is one of the most spacious compact SUVs, with a wide rear bench that comfortably accommodates four adults. It also offers a good balance of ride comfort and highway stability, making it well suited to your occasional long-distance trips. The diesel engine will help keep running costs in check over time, and the 3XO is a well-rounded package with strong safety credentials and a good feature set for the price. The only real drawback is that the boot is on the smaller side for the segment, so if you regularly travel with a lot of luggage, you may need to plan accordingly. If you are open to an EV and have home charging available, the Tata Nexon EV is worth considering as a city-friendly alternative, but given your highway usage and annual running, the diesel 3XO is the more practical and cost-effective choice.
I am planning to buy an electric vehicle (EV) for my daily commute of around 80 km, which is mostly on highways. My priorities are a spacious cabin that can comfortably accommodate four adults, strong build quality with a solid, stable feel on the road, high reliability and low maintenance costs, and a good long-term ownership experience, as I plan to keep the car for around eight years. Based on these requirements, which EV would you recommend, and why?
Based on your requirements, the MG Windsor Pro is the EV we would recommend. It offers a genuinely spacious cabin that can comfortably accommodate four adults, along with solid build quality and a stable, planted feel on the highway. MG cars has also built a strong reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs, which is important given your planned eight-year ownership period. The Windsor's long wheelbase and wide cabin make it one of the most comfortable EVs in its price bracket, and it feels like a genuinely substantial on the road. It also offers a good balance between range and efficiency, making it well suited to your 80 km daily highway commute. The only real drawback is that Windsor is not the most engaging car to drive, but as an all-round package, it is a dependable EV that should deliver a strong long-term ownership experience.
I drive around 50-60KM AVRG per day , so what car do you recommend me , i already own a skoda rapid 1.6tdi 2013 model and a innova crysta 2.4v 2022 model , and looking into a daily driver in ev segment and needs to suit my family of 4 , the car i looked into was vf6 , vf7 , xev9e , mg zs ev. Should i go ahead with the xev9e or the the above mentioned cars or should i wait for the Tata siera launch ?
I have a budget of Rs. 25-30 lakh. I currently own a 2025 MG Windsor EV and a 2022 Kia Seltos GTX+ Diesel AT. Since getting the EV, my running with the Seltos has reduced significantly. Its extended warranty will expire in August 2027. I am now planning to replace the Seltos with either the new Kia Seltos Turbo Petrol or the Hyundai Alcazar Turbo Petrol. We are a family of four, and whichever car I buy will be the top-end variant only.
The biggest advantage of Hyundai Alcazar in your use case is the captain seat configuration. Since you are a family of four, it can actually work beautifully as a comfortable four seater, with the second row offering noticeably better individual comfort than the Seltos. With the third row folded down, you also get a genuinely large boot, which makes it a very practical long distance family car. That said, the new Seltos feels like the more premium and more contemporary product overall. It is larger and more spacious than the Seltos you currently own, the cabin feels richer, the ride is comfortable and because it is the newer product, it will naturally feel fresher for longer. Importantly, both the Alcazar and the Seltos use the same 1.5 turbo petrol engine paired to a DCT, so outright performance and drivetrain character are broadly similar. The real question is what role this second ICE car will play. If it is primarily a comfortable family tourer and rear seat comfort matters most, the Alcazar makes a very strong case. But if you want something that feels like more premium, modern without stepping into a larger three row SUV format, the new Seltos is the better fit.
