With the intention of promoting the motorsport culture in India, team AXLR8R from IIT Delhi has been gradually climbing up the ranks in the international Formula car-style design competition for students organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
Team AXLR8R has been organising, designing and racing their Formula cars at the annual IIT Delhi tech fest called ‘Tryst’ for a while now, and has performed admirably at the Formula SAE events over the years. In 2007, AXLR8R competed in the event for the first time at the Formula SAE West California Speedway, US, and stood 58th out of a total of 80 teams. The following year, the team participated at the Formula SAE event in the UK and stood 54th out of a field of 80 teams.
And although the team had to take a sabbatical in 2011 due to a lack of financial support, team AXLR8R bounced back at the Formula SAE event in 2012 and stood 70th out of a total of 150 teams. The team is now focused on continuing its climb up the ladder and is all set to create a bigger impact at the Formula SAE event in 2013 in Italy.
Team AXLR8R's rise up the ranks
