Maruti Suzuki’s bestsellers Swift and WagonR have been crowned the India Design Mark (I-Mark) for 2012, awarded by the India Design Council.

This is the first edition of the India Design Mark and Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Swift are the only 4-wheelers to be awarded the I-mark. The India Design Mark (I-Mark) awards programme was organised with the cooperation of the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, organisers of Japan’s Good Design Award (G Mark), and preparations began in 2010. Adopting the same high standards as its Japanese equivalent, the submissions and judging for the first edition of the India Design Mark Awards was completed recently and the winners were announced.

The India Design Council is affiliated with India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry and is made up of eminent people in academia, design and industry organisations.

Commenting on the occasion, Maruti Suzuki’s Chief Operating Officer (Engineering), IV Rao, said, “The India Design Mark certificate to Wagon R and Swift demonstrates high design capabilities of the design teams of Maruti Suzuki India and Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan. Stepping up our efforts, Maruti Suzuki designers are now working on designing global models along with their Japanese counterparts, as part of SMC’s global design team,”
