Volkswagen-owned Spanish car firm Seat has confirmed the appointment of Stefan Lamm as its new head of exterior design. He was formerly at Ford for 10 years, in charge of exterior design, and was later head of exterior design at Ford of Europe. He will begin work at Seat on February 1, 2015.

At Ford, he played a key role in the 'kinetic' design seen on the recent Ford models like the S-Max, Focus RS Mk2 and Evos concept car. He worked closely with Martin Smith, the chief designer at Ford of Europe. Smith vacated the position, allowing Joel Piaskowski to take over in his place as part of a shuffling at Ford design which also resulted in the departure of the company's design chief J Mays at the end of 2013. He was replaced by Moray Callum.

Lamm will replace Jorge Diez, who has moved within the Volkswagen Group to become head of automotive concept design at Audi. Lamm will report directly to Seat's head of design Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.
