Skoda has has a reputation of offering space and practicality in their cars. This will be more evident in the future models from the Czech car manufacturer's drawing boards. While talking to our sister publication Autocar UK, Dr Frank Welsch, Skoda’s board member for technical development told them that the next-generation Skoda Superb will be unveiled in less than six months, and will have a longer wheelbase than the new Volkswagen Passat.

He also revealed that the Superb will still be under five meters long despite the longer wheelbase, adding that it will slot at the top of the list with the new Fabia being four meters long, Rapid being 4.3 meters long, and the Octavia being 4.6 meters long. Talking about the new Yeti, he said that the 4.2 meters long outgoing model would probably be stretched another 10cm to improve rear legroom and luggage space.

“Switching to using the MQB architecture does not restrict Skoda,” Welsch said. It allows us more flexibility to build specific cars. If we are going to have strong brands (in the VW Group) we can’t just use the same platforms. We need to stick to our own philosophy and serve our own customers.”
