Skoda has released a set of teasers of its upcoming SUV, the Kodiaq. At around the same time, the new SUV has also been spied almost undisguised in its production form. The Kodiaq will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Paris motor show 2016 on September 1.
The SUV was earlier previewed as the Skoda Vision S concept at the Geneva motor show earlier this year. The Kodaiq is Skoda’s first seven-seat SUV; the Yeti is only a five-seater. The Kodiaq seen in the spy shots looks production-ready, but the manufacturer has cleverly covered some minute bits such as the exact shape of the head, tail-lights and some other detailing with cladding that makes it look more Range-Rover-ish. The car shares its underpinnings with other Skoda models such as the Superb and Octavia, and gets the latest version of the VW Group’s transverse-engined AWD system, supplied by Haldex BorgWarner. The lower-spec versions will come with a front-wheel drive system only.
The new Skoda Kodiaq will come powered by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine in India. However, international markets will also get a 1.4 TSI variant. The Indian version will come with either a six-speed manual or a DSG automatic gearbox. The new SUV will measure 4,697mm in length, 1,882mm in width and come with a wheelbase of 2.7m which makes it relatively compact for a seven-seater. Expect Skoda to bring the Kodiaq to India sometime by the end of 2017.
