Shell Lubricants today launched a ‘Shell Helix Ultra Lifetime Engine Warranty’ that will be offered to motorists who use the Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus technology lubricant.  The global lubricant major said that the warranty will be valid only for India-registered cars and will cover lubricant-related engine failures. The lifetime warranty essentially means that the car will be covered for 1,00,000 km or 15 years, which, according to the company, constitutes the average lifespan of the car.

Moreover, Shell Lubricants also said that a limited-period warranty of 5 years will be offered to consumers using Shell Helix HX7 lubricant.

Shell had launched the Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus technology lubricant and Shell Helix HX7 lubricant in September last year. Made from natural gas, The Shell Helix Ultra doesn’t have impurities, normally found in crude oil.

“Our aim was to offer something that doesn’t talk about the technicals or specifics of the product, but is straightforward for the consumer to understand and really address one of their primary concerns about maintenance of a car,” Nitin Prasad, Managing Director, Shell Lubricants India told Autocar India.

Prasad further said that he anticipates the lubricant market in India to grow in the near term. “In terms of the general trend, what we see is a slight growth in the lubricants market. It’s highly correlated to the GDP, because you have the industrial component and the automotive component, and of course consumer sentiment,” he added.

To operate the warranty, customers will first have to enroll on the company website within 60 days of the date of purchase of the engine oil. Subsequently, the warranty will start 30 days or 1,000 km (whichever is later) after the enrolment. It will cover 13 engine parts.

However, Shell says the warranty will not be applicable to fleet vehicles or vehicles used for commercial purposes, and purchases made last year will also not be covered by warranty.
