The Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) plans to launch a new-and-improved Reva this May. Ultra-durable Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries will form the ticking heart of this small wonder. This will in fact double the cars range to 200km on a single charge. In addition to that, the vehicle will feature roof-mounted solar panels, which promise to augment drive power and help achieve better range. Also, RECC plans to squeeze in a new iEMS – Proprietary energy management system for intelligent management of energy flow – which will constantly keep tabs on energy usage patterns.
The biggest challenge to the new Reva could be the steep price, which is expected to be almost double that of the current model. This means it will come at a cost of around Rs 6 lakh (in Delhi). In an effort to sedate this matter, the company plans to tie-up with banks and look at options to finance the car and the lithium ion batteries separately.
