Volkswagen had previewed a 1.6-litre petrol Polo at the Auto expo in January and has now slipped it in to add to the 1.2-litre range. The 1.6 litre 4-cylinder in-line motor will only be available in the top of the line, ‘Highline’ variant. The 1598cc engine produces 103.5 bhp at 5250 rpm and 15.6 kgm of torque at 3750 rpm.
The manufacturer claims that the larger engine Polo will be a good three seconds quicker to the 100kph mark as compared to its three cylinder unit with a reported top whack of 183.8kph.
VW has already opened bookings with Rs 50,000 as down payment. However, the deliveries will only begin from October this year. The 1.6-litre Polo will be priced at Rs 7.10 lakh, on-road Mumbai (estimated) which seems to be value for money considering that it is a mere Rs 43,000 more than the 1.2 petrol Highline variant. VW is expected to reveal price of the powerful Polo in a fortnight.
