Mercedes-Benz has announced its plans to launch a pickup truck by the year 2020. The carmaker announced its plans on the back of an ongoing transformation in the mid-size pickup segment worldwide, with more and more pickups being used as private vehicles.

The official rendering provided alongside the information gives a hint towards what the final product may end up looking like.

As per the company, it plans to become “the first premium manufacturer to respond to this market shift” by launching a mid-sized pickup in the international market. The initial target markets for the company are Latin America, South Africa, Australia and Europe.

The responsibility for the project has been handed to the Mercedes-Benz Vans division under the supervision of Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. Volker has called the Mercedes pickup truck “an ideal vehicle” for the international expansion of Mercedes’ product range with a newly developed model.
