Vision-Mercedes Maybach 6 concept leaked

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept has been leaked prior to its world debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 21.

The leaked images reveal the car's exterior and interior in full, showing its curvaceous body and gullwing doors, as well as a hi-tech cabin that features a full-width head-up display system.

No technical specifications have been revealed, however Mercedes-Maybach has confirmed that the concept car's body is almost six-metres long, making it close to 1.5-metres longer than an AMG GT and 80cm longer than an S-class. It features a large front grille that suggests that a large petrol powertrain could be under the bonnet.

The Pebble Beach model is a pure design concept so won’t directly spawn a production car, but its two-door coupé body suggests that the Mercedes-Maybach division will one day start to produce more sporty vehicles.

Mercedes has been tight-lipped about its plans for Maybach’s future, but sales boss Ola Källenius suggested to our sister publication Autocar UK earlier this year that the brand would follow its parent company in the pursuit of a zero-emission future.

He said, “Mercedes is focused on investing tremendous resources into the path towards zero emissions. It’s something that will affect the whole portfolio.” This suggests that Maybach's concept could point towards future models that mix classic sportscar styling with electrified Mercedes drivetrains.

Inside sources have also told Autocar UK that Mercedes is interested in creating a bespoke car business like its rivals Rolls-Royce and Bentley. This concept could therefore be used to demonstrate the ability of Maybach’s designers when tasked with producing a one-off model. This was the case with Maybach's last coupé concept, the 2005 Exelero.

The Mercedes-Maybach division currently houses two S-class based models, the S 500 and S 600, both of which are offered in India with the former being locally assembled at the automaker’s plant in Chakan. The division is also considering expanding into the SUV segment in the future with the next-gen GLS likely to be the first model.
