Mahindra has launched the e2o electric city car in the UK. The car unveiled in London is a replacement for the G-Wiz (the earlier Mahindra Reva in India).

Available in two trim levels, the top trim gets features like an infotainment system, rear-view camera, navigation with plotted charge points, leather seats, alloy wheels and a Revive remote charging feature capable of providing up to 13km of range on a depleted battery.

The e2o uses a 13.5kWh battery that gives it a claimed range of 127km and is paired to an electric motor capable of developing 43hp and 91Nm of torque. The car has a claimed top speed of 101kph.
Mahindra's electric division boss Arvind Mathew said that he expects 90 percent of vehicle maintenance - mostly servicing - to be carried out at owners' homes and cost no more than traditional servicing.

On the safety front, the e2o is equipped with dual airbags, anti-lock braking system and electronic stability control. When asked whether the e2o would be a safer proposition than the car it replaces, the G-Wiz, which was notoriously unsafe, Mathew said: "The G-Wiz was a quadricycle; this is a car which can be driven on highways and is a full M1-certified vehicle."

The e2o will be built at Mahindra’s factory in Bangalore and will be sold in the UK online in four cities – London, Birmingham, Bristol and Milton Keynes – with Mahindra saying that online marketing should help it “close the price gap between diesel and electric cars”.

Large infotainment screen takes pride of place on Brezza dash. Dash design is simple but it’s well thought out.

Front seats are comfy and outside visibility is excellent.

Vitara has the more spacious cabin. Note rear armrest.

Top-spec Brezza’s touchscreen is a big draw for many.

Brezza power windows are from first-gen Swift.

Vitara boot is smaller but has the better shape.

Contoured EcoSport dash looks interesting but isn’t all that user-friendly. Plastic quality unimpressive too.

Excessive side bolstering hurts front-seat comfort.

Cabin is narrower but rear seat is more supportive.

EcoSport’s centre screen is small and looks outdated.

Fully loaded EcoSports come with side airbags too.

You’ll need to stow bags vertically in the Ford’s boot.
