Continuing with the rapid launch of new variants of the highly successful Kwid, Renault has released a third powertrain option – the Kwid 1.0 AMT. Priced at Rs 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the AMT is offered on the top RXT (O) trim. This means that apart from the standard features in the RXT trim, the model also gets a driver airbag. The much coveted touchscreen infotainment system and the digital speedometer are obviously included in the AMT.

The biggest highlight of the car is the gear selector. The 5-speed unit features a dashboard-mounted rotary selector instead of the usual gear lever. There are three modes – Drive (D), Neutral (N) and Reverse (R), with no option for manually influencing the gear changes. The traditional gear lever area now houses an additional storage space.

As with other automatic cars, the Kwid AMT has been positioned at a premium of Rs 30,000 to the equivalent manual model and costs about Rs 14,000 more than the top trim Alto K10 AMT which is priced at Rs 4.11 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Kwid AMT is a direct rival to the Maruti Alto K10 AMT, with other close rivals being the Nano AMT and the larger Maruti Celerio AMT. Learn more about the Kwid in our review here.
