The laser Heads-Up Display on the Range Rover Evoque

Turn by turn navigation and traffic information
Jaguar Land Rover showed off the use of laser Heads-Up Display (HUD) earlier this year, and has now made it available to order for its customers. The first to get the HUD is the Range Rover Evoque as a ₤1,000 (approximately Rs 1,00,000) option.
The units on offer will only display information such as road speed limit, gear position, cruise control status, navigation and traffic data and system warning. The system might be upgraded later to display more information, but that depends on how successful the technology proves to be with its customers.
JLR has claimed that the technology that they offer is vastly superior to rival units, and the laser holographic projection they use is clearer and brighter. Besides the HUD, JLR has been working on its ‘virtual screen’ and lighting and guidance system concepts, which were showed off at its research and development center in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
These systems are claimed by JLR to assist the driver, while he navigates tricky situations. They would also be used on road surfaces to provide hyper-accurate information for an active suspension system, or to be used as safety sensors for parking or pedestrian avoidance. Although these sound perfect for our driving conditions, the use of this technology here seems to be a long way off.
JLR will also show off the HUD system on the new SW1 Range Rover Evoque models at the Paris Motor Show, and these special editions will make their way to Asian markets around mid-October.
